Dell Inspiron 16 - Trackpad Problem - Ongoing Dispute
Inspiron 16 7610
I thought I'd share the saga about my Dell Insipron 16 7610 trackpad issues and update the community about how it progresses.
Summary -
Since purchasing this laptop in September 2021 I have had the following issues:
2 system fan failures (both replaced under warranty)
3 trackpad failures (two warranty replacements)
When the trackpad stopped working for the second time I was assured that if it broke again, I would be issued a replacement laptop due to my current one being not fit for purpose. I was very hesistant about this but a senior manager in customer services called me up and assured me that the new trackpads had no issues and that the problem should be permenantly fixed....but if it happened again they would offer me a brand new laptop.
When the trackpad failed for the third time, customer services told me that there would be no replacement and that the only thing they can do is replace the trackpad for the third time and that this time it would definitely be fixed. How many times can a company tell me that something will be definitely fixed without actually fixing it?
I am not willing to accept this. I have yet to find a single 7610 owner who has had their trackpad problem permanantly fixed and I do not believe that a third replacement will work. If I agree to this, it will stop working in a few weeks and I will need a fourth replacement.
The only acceptable resolution for this issue is for Dell to provide me with a 16" (or larger) screen laptop with similar spec that is not a 7610 as this hardware issue has clearly never been fixed properly. If they do not agree to this I am prepared to fight this as a matter of principle even if it ends up costing me more than a new laptop. I have just spent too much time and energy on this when all I want is a laptop that doesn't break after every few weeks of light use.
this will be expensive for everybody, but I will not roll over and tolerate being lied to by a company. They offered me a replacement and should honour that. If I have to spend a lot of money to fight for what is right, then so be it.
I will keep you all informed!

Thanks for the suggestion but this relates specifically to the known hardware failure of the trackpad and is not a software issue. Dell have confirmed this to me.

The most common placement is on the F9 key. To re-enable the touchpad on your Dell computer, press the button resembling a TouchPad button and see whether you regain the TouchPad functionality.
