Dock for G3 17-3779
Hello All,
I have a Dell G3 17-3779 and am looking for a dock to use with it. I want to connect a single HDMI display to the dock (as well as the usual Keyboard and mouse etc...).
Unfortunately my device does not have a USB C or Thunderbolt connector so I guess I am going to need something that can do display over USB.
I have seen the D3000 and D3100, would these be suitable? If so I am assuming they would need a separate PSU. Or is the D6000 series better?
I do also actually have a WD15 dock which has a USB-C connector. Is there any way to use this with either a USBC>USB3 adapter or is there any way to change the USB C connector on the dock to standard USB?

While some USB-C peripherals do come with adapters that allow you to plug them into USB-A (“regular USB”) ports, that only works when the peripheral manufacturer knows their device will work on that port. The WD15 is not that kind of device. Even if you found an adapter and tried it, you would not get video or system charging because the WD15 relies on DisplayPort Alt Mode for the former and USB Power Delivery for the latter, neither of which can be provided over USB-A. The Dxxxx models you referred to would work, but given that you have a gaming system, they probably won’t be acceptable to you for your purposes, for reasons I described in this thread, specifically the post marked as the answer: https://www.dell.com/community/Alienware/Docking-Station-D6000-Very-Bad-Video-performance-for-gaming/td-p/6193369
Unfortunately if you don’t have USB-C or TB3 and DisplayLink solutions won’t work for you, then you can’t use a docking station on that system.

Did you get any joy with this? I have a G3 and a 3100 dock. However, the dock doesn't seem to power the G3 as it's only connected via USB.
