dp alt mode for Inspiron 3501?
Inspiron 3501
The external monitor I am considering says the laptop needs to support DP Alt Mode. I have an Inspiron 3501. It does NOT have a USB-C port. The monitor would come with a cable that has USB-C on both ends. Would it work if I used a cable that had the standard USB-A on the laptop end and USB-C to connect to the monitor? Would the 3501 support DP Alt Mode like this?

A cable won't add support the notebook doesn't have, and this model does not support display output over USB.
You may be able to add that with an adapter that supports USB-A to displaylink.

@ejn63 The laptop has an HDMI connection. Would this work (DP Alt Mode) with an adapter for HDMI to USB-C?
And thanks for clearly stating that this model laptop won't do what I was hoping with using a USB-A to C cable. So now I can stop hunting for that possibility!
