Enter Current Password before Dell Logo
I've disconnected the CMOS battery and the main battery to reset the BIOS and any BIOS passwords on my Inspiron 11 3185 laptop. I even held the power button for about 2 minutes while they were both disconnected to drain any residue power. Yet, every time I power the laptop back on, it still shows a black screen with a blue password field in the center that says "Enter Current Password". It doesn't even says what the password is for so I'm not even sure if it's for the BIOS, HDD or what. I just know that as soon as I press the power button, this message comes up. There is not even a Dell logo or splash screen. Shouldn't there at least be a Dell logo first before anything else? Also, if it is a BIOS password, wouldn't it only ask for the password when I try to access the BIOS? I'm thinking it may be a HDD password, but shouldn't it state this so the user knows what specific password the computer is requiring?! At this point I don't even see how I can run Factory Restore, not that I want to, but as last resort.
Any suggestions?

That sounds like a system password and the only way to access the system is to call Dell tech support and after confirming you are the owner, they can help you access the system.

I was told that if I call, Dell will charge me $30 just to give me a code. That's a lot of money just for a simple code. Is this true? If so, couldn't Dell just as easily provide a way for owners to verify their ownership online? Thereby, a verified user could simply enter their lock code, and thus receive their unlock code. It would be simple, efficient and most of all...affordable.
