External SSD is not detected on boot

Hi everyone, I just bought the new Dell Inspiron 3511 this week and I am a programmer. So basically I need to separate my work on a different SSD with Ubuntu 20. I turned on the notebook and it doesn't recognize when I press F12 or F2. I have already disabled secure boot in the bios. But when I start with my original SSD with Windows, I can see the Ubuntu SSD in the manager disks.

What should I do?
I need to plug in my SSD, press F12 and load Ubuntu to do my work, I use it on my CPU and it works great.

Thank you very much.

If the external drive doesn't show bootable, verify that the installation of Ubuntu on it is UEFI-compliant -- it needs to be, since your system does not support legacy boot.

Firstly, I suggest you to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key, then click on Search bar.

2. Type “Troubleshooting” without the quotes and click on Troubleshooting.

3. Then click on View All on the left panel of the screen.

4. Click on Hardware and Devices.

5. Click on next and follow the instructions.

If the issues still persist, refer to the below methods.

Secondly, I would suggest you to try to check for the status of the drive in the device manager.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Then type “devmgmt.msc” without the quotes and hit on Enter Key.

3. Expand Disk Drive. If you are able to find the driver for the external drive.

6. Then again right click on the driver and click on Properties.

7. Check the device status of the disk.

Kindly reply with the information, so that we can resolve the issue.

A clean installation of windows 10 as well Ubuntu will needed

you will have to change SATA operation mode to AHCI in bios

this will cause your current windows 10 OS not to boot.

Now reinstall Win 10 on original drive, and ubuntu on second drive.
