Finding a charger

So I’ve been looking for a charger for my Dell laptop for about a month, I ordered 2 but they both didn’t fit. I don’t really know what I need to look for to find the right charger.. if someone could help that would be amazing!

We need to know your model computer's name and number to help. You can search for a charger at Dell here:

Hey, sorry for the late reply, @U2CAMEB4ME , @Mary G . This is the only tag I found on the bottom of my laptop.. I’ve blocked out all numbers and barcodes just in case. I also included the factory chargers power box. (Not sure if that what it’s called.) Hope this helps!!

I don’t know how big the charger pin is, that’s why I’ve been having a hard time finding a charger.

@nyc10036  45W chargers are available with 7.4mm barrels, 4.5m barrels, and USB-C connectors.

@Willow1918  If you can read your service tag, go to support.dell.com and enter it in the search box. It will tell you the model of your system. Or just boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 during initial startup and check the information section there, which will show your system model. Or Google “How to find system model in Windows 10”, since there are multiple ways to do that. But saying you need a charger for your Dell laptop and then not specifying the model, and then posting a photo of a system that blocks out the information people could use to identify the system doesn’t help. At a bare minimum you could have posted photos of the charger connector on the laptop and the tip on your current charger. But system model would be better.

@jphughan

The linked charger is exactly the one the OP's photo shows.

@nyc10036  As a general rule, I try to avoid buying any important electronics — such as those that can affect my important and relatively expensive laptops — from eBay. Counterfeits have gotten a bit too good for my liking these days, so somebody on eBay claiming they have a genuine brand new Dell charger that looks fine in photos doesn’t mean much to me, even if the shipped product looks exactly like the photos, which it doesn’t always.

@jphughan

Except for the one charger that came with a Dell laptop that I purchased from Dell Auction, I have either received them with the used laptops I have purchased on eBay or I have purchased them on eBay.

Never had a problem and I am closing in on 25+ chargers.

@nyc10036  That’s fantastic. There are other people who don’t feel the need for making backups or their data or having various types of insurance or security systems because they’ve gone a long time without incident too. Thing is, sometimes it only takes that one incident to change someone’s time, in this case a cheap counterfeit charger frying a laptop or starting a fire or something.

@jphughan

I buy from reputable sellers unloading extra inventory.

Since the laptops I buy are used, I am willing to take the risk.

If you want to be extra careful and pay 2x-3x, you can certainly do that.

I am more concerned with buying counterfeit Nike then with buying counterfeit Dell chargers.

The model is Inspiron 15 5559. I’ve bought 3 different chargers with different sized pins, 7.4 x 5.0, 4.5 x 3.0, and another 4.5 x 3.0.. only one of them fit except it was too long and didn’t fit in all the way.
