G15 5515, Touchpad issues

I don't know if this happens with anybody else. My touchpad feels great to use, but sometimes, seemingly randomly, its responsiveness becomes really bad for no reason. I have no idea why this happens, but it keeps changing between "responsive" and "unresponsive" modes sometimes constantly, and it makes using the laptop really annoying to use without a mouse.

I checked my drivers and "HID-compliant touch pad" is installed there by default, I tried uninstalling it and getting another touchpad driver like synaptics but it doesn't install or show up in the drivers list even after restarting my laptop.

If anyone knows why this is happening I would be grateful.

Hi @Hamlock welcome to this free user to user laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Support for Dell G15 5515 Ryzen Edition includes Diagnostics with the option to run the 40 minutes Full Test to thoroughly analyse your PC and detect hardware problems.

The system can become unresponsive (slow) if the OS(C:) boot drive does not have sufficient unallocated space to unpack temporary cabinets for extensive use of graphics, etc. Putting all your personal files on a DATA drive should be considered. Is the M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe drive an ultrafast gaming card?

Please open Task Manager when system appears to be slow to see if CPU use is near to 100%.

Hi, I would be very interested to know if you found a solution to this issue.

I also have the Dell G15 5515 Ryzen edition and I am experiencing the same lag on a irregular basis.

I am currently running windows 11, with all the latest updates and drivers.

Issue seems to happen randomly, the trackpad will suddenly have a very large input-lag causing the trackpad to feel sluggish and slow. This will then dissapear shortly later. The issue does NOT happen when using a USB mouse, this leads me to believe it is not the system lagging but rather the trackpad or the interface between the trackpad and the OS.

When it occurs, the computer does not slow down, there is no issue with other applications or anything else showing slow or sluggish behaviour.

As far as I can tell the issue is solely the trackpad or trackpad drivers.

Would love to know if you ended up finding a solution for this.

Hey I too have the exact same problem with my G15. Have you found any fixes?

Hello @crimsom , sorry for the late reply.

I have run the full test diagnostic and passed every test. I have a PC SN530 NVMe WDC 256GB SSD, and the touchpad becomes slow and unresponsive even when the CPU usage is around 10% in the performance tab on Task Manager.

Same machine/OS/issue here.

Unfortunately can't find a pattern to reproduce this problem. But I think somehow that it's related to my display refresh rate switching from 60-165hz to save battery when screen is static.

Please Dell, release an update. This is REALLY ANNOYING.

I have the same issue - the trackpad will have a 100-ish ms delay between input and display, but only every 30 minutes - 1 hour, for maybe 2 minutes.

I'm going to try running my laptop at 60hz for a while to see if that refresh-rate switching idea is the ticket.

My other theory is that we got shafted with bad trackpads that have badly programmed firmware: beyond the weird delay issue, it's also possible to mash the trackpad enough that you can trick it into thinking it has 1 less touch contact than is actually happening - 1 fingers does nothing, 2 fingers points the cursor, 3 fingers scrolls. The only way to escape that state is by restarting the computer. So maybe some first-year programmer must have made really garbage-y drivers we now have to suffer with.

It could very well be... support just wants to bury us since the firmware cannot be updated remotely. Just a theory from how this bug is being treated by Dell.

I'm with the same issue, i'm from Brazil and we have the same version of dell g15 tham yours (5515 ryzen 7 rtx 3060), and I alrealdy called to Dell brasil but they don't how to helpe us, they just speak the same words (run the diagnostic of bios), but nothing is detected. And I also had a video driver issue that literally my mouse goes away when I need to write someting, for sollution this secondary problem I had to download a new skin to my mouse or return a video drive from AMD to an old version.

It's another problem than a mouse on the windows 11 it was getting transparent on selecting text. It's happen because a AMD driver it was broken.

I had this exact same problem with my Dell g15 5515 with the Ryzen 5 5600h and RTX 3050 GPU on windows 11, I have recently downgraded to windows 10 and so far I haven't noticed any intermittent touchpad lag, either way, Dell still needs to fix this issue!

Having the same problem.  In windows AND linux.  It's kind of like a hardware thing, except when touchpads fail they either start going berserk, not working at all, or skipping/jumping badly.

This is quite unlike that. What it feels like is some kind of smoothing, or interpolation that makes the cursor move slightly behind the finger movement in a smooth fashion though.  Normally people say "lag" but traditionally cursor lag means a stuttering, skipping or subtle pausing, as if the computer were under heavy load due to resource constraints.  This is not traditional lag.  I saw one user on reddit call it "wobbly", which I think is a fair description. It's quite annoying, and it happens on multiple linux distros and in Windows.  Could have been the perfect laptop. I cannot recommend this hardware to anyone because touchpad is so critical to laptop productivity.

I have a ryzen 5600h and 3050 graphics card, windows 11. The 'wobbly-ness' is something I experience on a daily basis if I choose to use this device. Really hair pulling if it happens a second time during the same session, as it's incredibly distracting. I've been forced to buy a small mouse to try and side-step this issue, but it's painful and infuriating none-the-less, really wish I could just use the laptop as-is without any external devices that I need to remember to tote around, could get lost or broken. I have lost any trust in Dell until they can address this hardware specifically.

Guys, I think I found the problem, just turn off the "Windows widget", I was using my computer normally when the touchpad started to have a problem, then I realized that the windows widget had been started in the task manager, I looked for a video on youtube to disable using commands and so far the touchpad has not given me a problem again, I'm using the computer all day and I've restarted it several times and without the problem. I hope to help all of us who pay dearly for this dell.
