G7 15 7588 lagging game and again running smoothly

Hello I am really sorry for my bad English but what my problem is that. I brought this laptop a month ago everything was fine every game was running buttery smooth. But suddenly after a month later I notice that my games runs smooth at first and lags suddenly and after a few seconds it again runs smoothly. This happens frequently every game runs smooth and lags, runs smooth and lags. Please help !!!

Its power or thermal throttling. That means that the cpu is getting hot and once it hits a certain temperature it lowers the clock speeds by alot to reduce heat. They go back up after it cools a bit so that will make it very choppy. did you upgrade to the new bios 1.41? If you didnt then dont do it because it makes the problem worse

I have a Dell G7 15. I just bought this laptop not too long ago and already It gets really hot above the F1-F12 keys.  It gets really hot when I play ROE, Fortnite and OverWatch.

(It’s on a flat surface and dust free vents)

I have to plug in the charger so I can have good FPS (60-120) to game but however it gets really hot, even if The charger is plugged in it’ll drop the FPS every minute or so, I’m assuming it’s because it gets really hot. If I take out the charger, my FPS drops down to 20/30 and I can’t really play my games but my laptop doesn’t get hot to the touch.

So it’s either I plug it in, play my games and have it hot to the touch Or I unplug the charger, have bad FPS and cooled down laptop.

I noticed that if the charger is plugged in and I’m not doing anything but surfing the web, the temperature seems to be fine. It’s just when I play those games with it plugged it the temperature goes crazy but no code pops up or anything.

I tried looking it up on google but I couldn’t find anything that was useful. Help please?

I have the same problem. I would think the G7 would be capable of running fortnite at 60FPS with settings on High, but it's way to laggy for that. It has an 8th Gen i7, 16GB ram, and a 1060 Max hq, which should be more than capable .I've gone back to my XBOX One because the G7 even lags a bit at 30fps. Does anyone know of a test I can run to make sure I don't have a faulty Dell G7?

Thank you for your message. Please run a stress on the graphics card on Dell Support Assist & check the FPS.

Please check the CPU & disc usage to check if it is on the higher side without any games open.

For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Dell-Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

I have used the Dell G7 laptop and it is really a very good laptop as the performance of the hardware is very high and so you will really love using this laptop. You may encounter error code 43 mac which can be easily fixed if you follow some steps.

I was having the exact same issue on my dell g7, but there's a super simple fix. When in game, press the windows key + G and a game bar thing should pop up. On this, there is a toggle on/off button for "game mode". Make sure this is on. It worked for me, and should work for anyone else. Thermal throttling seems the only logical reason for this issue, but my pc temp stays the same before and during the lag.

I am reading about everyone having this problem, and I wanted to help. It appears clear that the laptop is thermal throttling. I was having the same issue with this laptop. It worked great when I first got it, but months later, the stuttering in Fortnite makes it unplayable. I was able to solve this by putting a cheap laptop cooler from Amazon under the laptop. This appears to be enough to actually cool the laptop and the stuttering and lag goes away completely. I picked up a ThermalTake laptop cooler. It's not that expensive (less than $20) and it seems to cool the laptop about 10c degrees, which is enough to prevent the lag. I am pretty sad that this laptop can't thermally cool on its own, but this is a cheap fix for an otherwise excellent laptop, and I wanted to make sure I shared it with this thread.
