OK, first of all could you please post the exact model number of your system? The 3000 is indeed a series not a model number. A virus can do some pretty nasty things to a computer and the hard drive. Before you format it, which would eliminate all files including a virus, run system diagnostics to make sure the drive is not failing. After 2 years of steady work, it is possible.
Restart the system and at the Dell splash screen start tapping F12. Run full diagnostics paying attention to the hard drive results. If the drive does have problems, consider an SSD which will give you far better performance and should outlast an HDD.
Once you either format of replace the hard drive consider installing a good anti virus program. If you got the virus once, and not knowing where you got it from, it could happen again. An ounce or prevention works with computers as well.
Hey @JOceon, I have run the short diagnostics(fn+power button) and it caught an error on the hard disc. When I pasted the error code on the support assist the error description was: Hard Drive-self test unsuccessful, terminated and it recommended to replace it with another one So the hard drive is failing right?

That is indeed correct. Consider an SSD, the performance is much better and the prices are coming down on even the largest SSDs.
