Hard Drive Failed during diagnostic. Error Code 2000-0142
Dear forum / Dell support
Please help. I have just run a diagnostic on my Inspiron n5010 and have the following error message:
Hard Drive Failed during diagnostic. Error Code 2000-0142
And disk read error. Press ctrl+alt+delete for restart
No Events found!

You need a new 2.5" SATA drive -- it might be a good time to consider replacing the failed hard drive with a solid state drive.

Search locally -- prices vary by region. In the US, it's about $100 for a solid state drive, and $50 or so for a hard drive.

uhh, dude, this might be wrong I had the same issue but my RAM was causing this similar error. There are two solutions either that the one of the RAM is affecting the system OR what you said. how did I figure this out? I bought this 4 gig RAM from A-TECH(model PC3L-12800 4Gb) and it caused that error. Then when I had my original set up, it was working again.
