How to return a defective laptop?
The wifi will not work on my new Inspiron and fails to work even after repaired. I have now been through 3 sessions with Dell Support. Each time they resolve the problem, and I finally can get online. However, the next time I sign on again after the laptop has been asleep or shut down, the same problem is back. Now the folks at Dell Support want me to ship it to them so they can run a full diagnostic and repair. I've already lost several hours dealing with this and still have NEVER been able to use my laptop longer than one session. It's still well within the warranty period but past the 30-day return window, and I have already thrown away the box. Can someone tell me how to do a return and get a refund?

The return policy is in the following Dell post. However since you are past the 30 day window and have thrown away the original packaging, it is doubtful that Dell will issue a CRA. And you will have to talk to Customer Service to obtain that CRA. Call them and explain the situation.

I had the same problems with my XPS 13 that I purchased in January. After about a month of usage, I started having all sorts of problems with short battery life, overheating of laptop, slow Internet, and freezing on many occasions. I sent the laptop back for repairs on March 9. It is now April 1, and I'm being told that the part that is needed to repair the laptop is out of stock and is expected to be in stock on April 9. I find this level of service unacceptable and will seek a refund. I don't care that it's outside the 30-day return policy--what they sent to me was clearly a defective device and they need to make good on this. So frustrating!

It is clear as day dell has issues with there xps laptops and it is unbelievable they are not taking responsibility for these issues that they are coming up with not caring that it can affect someone's job and education. While maintaining the product for individuals to buy without fixing the issues. Now I know why Dell is not to be trusted.

I have had the same issue, dell tried over customer support remote access via Ethernet cable(my wifi is not working) for almost 2 hours to get it to work. They couldn’t , So they said I had to send it in for them to replace the Wi-Fi chip. My computer was about 3-4 months old. And I got it back from Dell with the Exact same issue still there. They did nothing when I sent it in besides completely format the hard drive (deleted everything and reinstalled windows). When I received the pc back the wifi was still not there. They claim it was working when they sent it back, but lied because when I turned on the computer it had never been used before, it was like turning on a brand new pc for the first time so there is no way they could have checked the wifi without signing into it. They are not honoring the warranty, and it is past the exchange return period.

my brand new alienware x17 won't charge randomly, once the battery is depleted im left to my own luck. i spoke with customer service today to send mine back for full diagnostics. here i am evacuating my data after some hours the laptop decided to charge. i no longer feel comfortable using a very expensive product that will fail me at any given moment. is a terrible feeling of uncertainty Not to mention that i will be days without a computer and my data. I hope the issues resolves once i send it in otherwise i do not know what will i do. the laptop is only 3 months old.

I had the same problem with my XPS 13. What do we have to do to return the defective laptops? Dell had refused the return or exchange the defective laptop, I am tired to be calling or being hours with the support department, they just give me temporary solutions. I paid a lot of money and I would like my money be refunded

In order to return the system for a refund, you must be within 30 days of shipment. If the system is older than that and there's a demonstrable hardware problem (run the system diagnostics, F12 at powerup), a warranty repair will be arranged.

@mindyrb did you get this resolved? My laptop said it had an issue and the background screen is now white. It gets REALLY hot. Also the TouchPad is super slippery and cursor is hard to control. It won't turn on with 15% battery.

@Msr250 Dell has gone down hill. Mine is a laptop only turned on not used and it has hardware issue that I was told make this unsafe. They won't take it back for a refund-I dont want this laptop!
