Inspiron 16 7610, Touchpad random taps and swipes
I have new Inspiron 16 7610 for a month and it has touchpad problem randomly. Touchpad has random taps and swipes, inaccurate finger tracking. I will contact with Dell but wondering is there anyone has that problem or any simple solution for it?

Yes so far the setting looks like it made the touchpad stable, I've reverted the machine to Windows 10 too (just for more information) as I was having issues with VMware workstation too. So from my point for view looks like a software driver issue but was unusable on Win 11 and initially wasn't stable on Win 10.

For Linux, a similar workaround is documented here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1231126/touchpad-power-management-issue-sticky-cursor-input-detection-delay-autosus?newreg=19ccd4cd1c1e46f38af9124cc16e4c54
I can't say I'm 100% convinced yet (running Fedora 34).

Is this still working? I had received an Inspiron 16 Plus, had the trackpad issue and returned it. If a "simple" I2C setting fixes it, I'll reorder as I loved the rest of the machine. Good work on tracking this down!

Is there any chance that an official Dell Representative could verify that pamunro's I2C setting above indeed fixes this problem? This is costing Dell prestige and money - seems like y'all should be interesting in fixing it. It is keeping me from buying an Inspiron 16 Plus right now...

Interested in buying this laptop. Is the problem fixed? Will probably wait for the 2022 version if it’s not resolved.

I've just (re)ordered a 16+. If I see the touchpad problem (expected) and pamunro's I2C adjustment fixes it, I will report here.

I ordered an Inspiron 16 a few months back and it had this problem. I even video recorded it happening when I was in the bios diagnostics screen. It is not a software issue - I had to send it back. Dell sent me a new Inspiron 16 and it has been fine for a week or so and just tonight the track pad started acting up with the same problem on the new one. So frustrating. Will be returning this one too I expect.

The problem is not fixed.
Interestingly enough, everyone is looking at the touchpad as the source of all evil, but I have noticed that if, instead of having the OS scale up (to 150% for example), you set the resolution lower (I am currently using 1920 x 1200), the problem is gone.
Also, when I do that, the screen flickering is gone.
So it looks more like a video subsystem issue than a touchpad issue.

Yes, same issue. Our 16 Plus is only a couple of months old and we have suffered from touchpad problems from the beginning. Dell Support has already re-installed the touchpad driver. That didn't help. I will be contacting them soon and pushing for a permanent solution soon. I use my old Dell laptop right next to the 16 Plus and have no touchpad problems, so don't let them tell you it's your fingers or some other condition. It's either a hardware or software problem,

If I look in dmesg, I see things like
[83573.133257] ACPI: EC: interrupt blocked
[86584.565492] ACPI: EC: interrupt unblocked
which I don't like, and lots of

which must be something internal as I don't have any USB device attached, and lsusb -t doesn't list any driver linked to device 3-9

I can't confirm that closing the lid ( = suspend ) fixes the issue, I had to really switch it off, after which I could immediately switch it back on, without a cooldown, and the issue was gone again for a few hours.
I still think it is a firmware issue (because it manifests itself in multiple OSses), and not a hardware issue, as when you disable scaling but lower the resolution instead, the problem is gone too, and stays gone (I've been working all day on it, not a single touchpad or video flicker problem).
