Inspiron 16 7610, Touchpad random taps and swipes

I have new Inspiron 16 7610 for a month and  it has touchpad problem randomly. Touchpad has random taps and swipes, inaccurate finger tracking. I will contact with Dell but wondering is there anyone has that problem or any simple solution for it?

Make sure you get the new trackpad design  - still working perfectly after 3 weeks. I feel I was lucky to get the new version though.

I honestly regret for buying this Laptop Inspiron 16 (7610). Since, I brought this laptop in month of January2022. I'm regularly facing the same issue with the touchpad and with every   replacement again same problem occurs within few weeks. Starts with some erratic moments, button wont work, complete touchpad won't work after some time, right now touchpad has completely stopped working.

Happened to me last week, very annoying.

I Contacted Dell support online (this page, bottom right, "Get Help") and they told me to update BIOS and Chipset software, all very well explained.

Solved the problem instantly.

Conductive tapes didn't help. Dell has the touchpad replaced for the fifth time.

My laptop is not under warranty anymore, is there a way to purchase that item instead?

dell as proceed for free the (third...) pad replacement after end of waranty, there is a legal waranty for manufacturing defect, but for this i think you probably had to delare the failure at least once during waranty period...

I have a dell certified refurbished 7620 that I got on eBay in November of 2022. It has the same touchpad issues. Can you help me get it serviced?

Hello. I bought a ceerified refurbished dell 7620 Inspiron. I am having issues with the touch pad. But dell does not give a warranty for certified refurbished items. It goes through a third party. Please help me get this touchpad fixed so I can use my computer. It’s terribly disappointing at this time.

To give another data point:

Had this issue too some weeks after purchase. The touchpad had been replaced once by DELL support and the problem reappeared a few weeks later

The touchpad was replaced a second time by DELL support early in march and I have had no problem since. Not sure whether this is an updated touch pad design but at least I've got no problem (for now). Will keep you updated.

The conductive tapes were together with the touchpad.

Hi all, I have been having the same issue on my 2 month old Dell Inspiron 16 2 in 1 7620 and I found a solution that should hopefully work. Also check out his link for further issues.

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-tt/000123353/touchpad-usage-and-troubleshooting-guide

Try these steps and see if they work for you:

1. Turn off your computer

2. Turn it back on and press the f12 key when it is starting up

3. Select diagnostics

4. Run the test ( after running the test, your track pad should hopefully have no issues)

This is unacceptable considering the price we pay. Moreover that this topic is marked solved as long as you're in the warranty time limit. It's not solved at all since you have to pay and replace a part that breaks soon after. People are left with a defective device, having to restart or run a test everytime it happens. And it happens a lot.

I had the touchpad replaced twice while under warranty. The first was just the touchpad being replaced, this worked fine for around 4 months then the problem came back. The second time they also swapped out my motherboard along with a new touchpad. The problem came back quicker the second time, within a month or so. By this time I was out of warranty like many others. The technician also broke one of the bottom corner screws, so my laptop bottom case no longer closes properly.

Not a good experience. While the laptop is great overall, the way that this problem has been handled means I won't be buying a dell again.

Got my touchpad replaced Dec. 2022, then again in June 2023, now 90 days later going for round 3 replacement. I'm a bit concerned/confused since it says that the new part was available to resolve this on Dec. 7th 2022, but the part I had installed 6 months later didn't even last 3 months.
