Inspiron 16 7610, Touchpad random taps and swipes

I have new Inspiron 16 7610 for a month and  it has touchpad problem randomly. Touchpad has random taps and swipes, inaccurate finger tracking. I will contact with Dell but wondering is there anyone has that problem or any simple solution for it?

Solution -> open the laptop and untighten the battery screws. Mine were super tight, I think this was too much pressure, but might be too little space in the case for the battery after all.
I had a similar issue with a replacement battery on my XPS 9350. The battery expands when in use, then pressure is too much for the touchpad and it starts to get glitchy. Please go ahead and try this. I left the cover screws out for the moment, but with the clips it should not make much of a difference.

I had the same issue with my Dell Inspiron 16 Plus, but got it resolved recently. The trackpad is installed incorrectly which mounts pressure at its edges which eventually results in stuttering or laggy mouse movements and sometimes even the clickes too. I soved this problem by disassembling the trackpad by unscrewing it and removing the trackpad and placing it back and assembling it. Now if you open the laptop, you will notice the trackpad sits little below its body level. Right away my issue got resolved and after doing this, I never had this problem come back to me again.

Highly recommend everyone to try it. Its just due to faulty installation of trackpad.

Hi @akilmomin

I just tried this method, but didn't work for me. Thank you for your recommendation.

Hi @Juan J.

Did you unscrewed the trackpad completely and removed it out of the body and placed it back again?

Please check @DELL-Chris M message above:

All users should reply to one of the private messages sent to you by DELL-Cares. The DELL-Cares agents need to setup service to replace the Touchpad.

Hey Guys, let me know if unchecking "enhance pointer precision" under mouse properties corrects the issue.  So far it's working for me, but I need more time to see if the frozen and/or erratic cursor problem returns...

Hi, I recently purchased this laptop, and it worked fine for a few weeks, and this problem appeared from nowhere. I tried different settings and configurations. Then I figured out a simple way to fix this issue. Please follow the below steps.

Steps:

  • Go to device manager
  • Select Intel UHD graphics under display adapters
  • Right-click and disable the device.
  • Once it is disabled, your screen resolution will change to 3072x1920. You can adjust the scaling setting as per your preference. Mine is set to 200%.
  • Check your touchpad. Trust me. The problem is no more.
  • You can use the laptop without Intel UHD graphics. I used it for a month without any issue. The only drawback is that you cannot change your screen resolution or brightness. So before you disable the driver, make sure to set the brightness to your desired level.
  • If you want to enable it again, you can, but before that, go to the Nvidia control panel and set the 3D and PhysX settings to Nvidia GeForce RTX. Let me know if the problem reappeared after enabling it.

I followed the below steps, and the touchpad issue was fixed. Please try this and let me know.

  • I updated the BIOS. Go to dell support assistant, download all available updates, and restart the laptop. Unfortunately, this alone did not fix the touchpad issue.
  • After that, restart the laptop and press F12 and Go to the BIOS settings and reset to factory default settings. (After that, I changed the battery configuration to "Primarily AC use" mode. No need to change to this if default settings are working)
  • Then logging into the OS, go to the device manager and disable the Intel UHD graphics under display adapters.

Oh, that is strange. In theory, it should not lag. Maybe let alone this change won't help. I am not sure, but my touchpad issue was fixed, which means that this is not a hardware issue. It is probably firmware/software related. I will tell you exactly what I tried to fix my touchpad issue before disabling the Intel UHD graphics.

  • I updated the BIOS. Go to dell support assistant, download all available updates, and restart the laptop. Unfortunately, this alone did not fix the touchpad issue.
  • After that, restart the laptop and press F12 and Go to the BIOS settings and reset to factory default settings.
  • Then logging into the OS, go to the device manager and disable the Intel UHD graphics under display adapters.

These are all the steps I followed, and this problem is now history to me. My laptop specs are as follows.

  • OS - Windows 11 Pro
  • Graphics - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 6GB GDDR6 [60W]
  • RAM - 32GB, 2x16GB, DDR4, 3200MHz
  • Processor - 11th Generation Intel Core i7-11800H
  • Storage - 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive

Let me know how it went.
