Inspiron 5510 - Slow disk access
Yet another issue with my new Dell Inspiron 5510 - slow disk access. File access is really slow - opening a PDF in Adobe Acrobat, or a new Explorer window causes an appreciable lag. I'm comparing to my 6-year old Asus, which has an older SSD, and the speed difference really stands out. I've run a CrystalDisk Mark and that bears out the difference.
Any advice on what to do to speed things up? It's hard to believe that it's down to the hardware - this machine has reasonable specs. Are there tunable parameters I can tweak?

If the system is running McAfee, removing that and using Windows Defender will help appreciably.

I'm not running McAfee, only Windows Defender.

I just did a head to head comparison with this new Dell and a 6-year old Asus with a slower processor, less RAM and an old Crucial 1TB SSD. Both systems running Windows 10. Not only are the benchmarks better on the Asus, but running JDiskreport flies through the Asus file system but crawls along on the Dell. I tried also with WinDirStat - the same thing, incredibly slow on the Dell and very fast on the Asus.Something is not right - the newer hardware should be better but it's clearly not.
