Inspiron 5577 Dock issues
I have an old Inspiron 5577 that I am trying to use with a Belkin docking station. When I connect to it by USB it wont port the video to my external monitors. The laptop has a hdmi port that will allow an external monitor but the resolution is terrible.
Am I able to connect to the dock and use external monitors with this laptop?

Only over HDMI, or with a docking station that has displaylink support -- the system itself has no video out over USB.
The HDMI port should be able to output at FHD (1920X1080) when connected directly to an HDMI monitor

I use the docking station with my work laptop and it extends the display over both monitors which eliminates the dock as the problem.
I downloaded displaylink drivers to the Inspiron 5577 and it's still not extending the display to my monitors.
When connecting a monitor to the 5577's hdmi port the resolution drop down box is greyed out, showing 1280 x 720 as the resolution.

Does the dock support displaylink?
And since the system appears to be the issue - not the dock -- is the video driver on it working correctly internally and is it reasonably up to date?

The video card is a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1050, the driver is 577.00, updated on 7/14/2025.

The dock is fine with my work laptop. It extends the display to my two monitors just fine.

Something that might be relevant. I am using the same cable for both laptops. When I use it with the Inspiron that is having video troubles it will provide a network connection so its working on that level.

I do not see any evidence that dock has displaylink support -- it is claimed to be for Chromebooks. Since your Inspiron has no native USB video output, that is almost certainly the issue.
If you're looking for displaylink adapters, there are some in Dell docks -- or Synaptics.

If the dock doesn’t support displaylink how is my Bimbox laptop disllay being extended to the other monitors when it is connected?
