Inspiron 5584 - Wrong Touchpad Driver ?
I'm having some issues with the touch pad on my Inspiron 15 5584 / 64-bit Win 10 Pro v1909 laptop (e.g., computer won't wake from sleep mode when touch pad is swiped) and I don't know if I have the correct driver installed for my touch pad.
Device Manager does not list a touch pad under "Mice and Other Pointing Devices", but there is a HID-compliant Touch Pad listed under "Human Interface Devices" with a driver version 10.0.18362.175 dated 21-Jun-2006. I know that Win 10 v1903 build 18362.175 (KB4503293) was released on 11-Jun-2019, so my best guess at this point is that this is a generic driver installed at the factory before my laptop was shipped in August 2019 or that a Windows Update has overwritten the Intel driver recommended by Dell.
The support page <here> for my Inspiron 5584 currently lists one driver in the "Mouse, Keyboard & Input Devices" category if I enter my Service Tag - the Intel HID Event Filter Driver (Package 9FT4R, v2.2.1.375_A10, rel. 19-Feb-2019, last updated 21-Dec-2019). Dell Update v3.1.0 reports there are no available updates for my system and the System Information link shows that this v2.2.1.375 driver is currently installed.
Note that I already installed the latest Inspiron 5583/5584 BIOS v1.9.1

Hi @Anonymous :
Thanks for your response, but I'd rather not troubleshoot my problem trying to wake my laptop from Sleep mode with my touch pad in this thread. It's a minor annoyance, since I discovered that pressing the Windows logo key on my keyboard will wake my laptop.
I've already sent about 30 PMs to DELL-Cares over the past month (Support Ticket 3999454) and have told them multiple times that a) I don't use a USB mouse or have any other USB-connected device attached to my laptop, and that b) swiping my touch pad does not wake my computer from Sleep mode regardless of whether the Enable USB Wake Support setting is turned ON or OFF in my BIOS. I've already told DELL-Cares I'm not going to waste any more time answering the same questions over and over again if the support reps aren't going to read my previous replies for that support ticket or address ongoing concerns I have about the current state of several of my hardware drivers (touch pad, Toshiba SSD, Goodix Fingerprint Reader, etc.)
For now, I'd just like to know if it's normal that Device Manager shows that I have a generic Microsoft v10.0.18362.175 driver (dated 21-Jun-2006) for my HID-compliant Touch Pad when Dell Update shows that I have the latest Intel HID Event Filter Driver v2.2.1.375 (Package 9FT4R, rel. 19-Feb-2019) installed and that no updates are currently available for my system. I've started this thread in the hope that another Inspiron 5584 / Win 10 user will be able to tell me the version number of their own touch pad driver in Device Manager.

One other driver you might check that may help, Intel IO driver, from what you're saying your trackpad has listed a precision HID device so the correct driver would be the windows driver. So I suspect that the trackpad swipe may not be listed as a way to wake up your notebook from sleep you might check all your windows settings for your trackpad

Hi,
Thanks for keeping us informed. Could you right-click on the HID-compliant touchpad and then click on uninstall? Restart the system and then check the driver version.

Hi Clintlgm:
Thanks for the additional info. I checked today and the Dell Update UWP Application v.3.1.0 (System Information) and Windows Device Manager both show I already have the latest Intel Serial IO Driver (Package M31NN, v30.100.1841.2) currently listed on the support page <here> for my Inspiron 5584 service tag.

Hi Mausam:
At the moment I have the Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) of my Win 10 Pro v1909 OS configured to prevent Windows Update from installing device drivers (Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Windows Update | Do Not Include Drivers with Windows Update | ENABLED) while I'm trying to troubleshoot some other problems on my computer so I'd rather not uninstall the HID-compliant touchpad in Device Manager and re-boot right now just to see what happens. I'd rather have a glitchy touchpad than no a non-functional touchpad if something goes wrong.
After reading Clintlgm 's 10-Feb-2020 post <here> I confirmed I have a precision touchpad, and the How-To Geek article What Is a “Precision Touchpad” on Windows PCs? explains how these touchpads don't require a hardware driver to interpret taps, swipes and other gestures like "traditional" touchpads from companies like Synaptics, etc. That would also explain why I see the message "No driver files are required or have been loaded for the device" when I check the Driver Details in Device Manager.

I've never owned a laptop that couldn't be taken out of Sleep mode by swiping or tapping the touchpad (and I've used various Dell business laptops at work in the past) but perhaps Clintlgm is correct that the precision touchpad on my Inspiron 5584 doesn't have this capability. If that's true then DELL-Cares has wasted hours of my time trying to fix an unfixable problem.
I'm more concerned about the sleep / hibernate problems I've described in my thread Inspiron 15 5584 Wakes After 180 Min of Sleep (ACPI Wake Alarm) so I think I'll go back to trying to troubleshoot that issue for now (I opened a support ticket several weeks ago and DELL-Cares has told me they'll contact me privately if Dell's product development team ever finds a solution). I've already discovered that my system wakes with an ACPI Wake Alarm (and starts draining my battery) after 180 min of idle time when my Dell power plan tries to switch from Sleep mode to Hibernate mode, and I posted a new question in that thread today about the drivers for my Toshiba NVMe SSD just in case that's part of the problem.
