Inspiron 7559 Screen Display Issues

Good afternoon all. I have been having some issues that started up with my Dell Inspiron 7559 recently and am trying to see what I can figure out with help here as far as isolating the issue before doing some major disassembly.

Likely issue: I am pretty sure the LCD display cable must be damaged, but I'm not sure if the problems below are fully indicative of that or a separate hardware issue.

Encountered problems: (1.) the screen will regularly go completely black and usually requires moving the lid up and down to get it into the 'right spot' where it comes back on (kind of like wired headphones where one ear starts to go and you need to adjust the wire to the 'right' spot to get both ears working). (2.) on maybe 50% of power-ups, the display will have "reset" to 800 x 600 resolution. (3.) on maybe 20% of power-ups, the computer just sits there silently with a black screen and nothing happening.

I'm pretty sure #3 is just it's own separate issue. The more annoying problems are the display issues on #1 and #2. I've watched a video on disassembling the laptop to replace the LCD cable and although relatively 'simple', it requires quite nearly all of the major components of the laptop to be taken apart. I've done a screen and keyboard replacement on a Macbook before (which has like a thousand screws), so I'm not averse to doing this myself if need be, but what I am concerned about is figuring out how to know if a cable is damaged or if it simply might have a loose connection. Is there a way to know this without disassembling everything?

Like countless others, I've had the hinge issue that plagues this series and have to rescrew the same screw nearly once every three weeks or so, which also makes me think it must be a worn cable somewhere.
