Inspiron, battery replacement, Touchpad not working properly
Recently I bought a new battery off of Amazon that was compatible with my laptop to replace the old battery & yesterday I had my dad replace it.
The battery works from what I know and has been charging, however since replacing the battery, the touch pad in the middle only lets me move the mouse.
Whenever I go to click on things or drag, it seems to be malfunctioning or not working unless I tap multiple times. This seems to be a huge issue since I use my laptop for school purposes and I don’t know how to fix it.
I’m sure when my dad took off the case, something went wrong or something got moved out of placement accidentally, but we aren’t technical geniuses on Laptops.
Issues at hand:
-Not letting me drag my mouse without struggle
-Not letting me easily click on things when it should
Any help you can provide would be awesome regarding the situation and how to fix it at home.
Any specific instructions on what to place where or what parts to fix (colors/way they look) would be helpful to!
I do want to preference that I have already checked touchpad settings and everything is set as it should be on the basic settings & it is not a setting issue. It seems to be an issue once I replaced the battery in the inside of the laptop!
Thanks!

Was the old battery swollen? If it was, it may have damaged the touchpad. If that's warped, the new battery likely doesn't support the touchpad correctly.
If the new battery is third-party rather than OEM, it may not fit the system perfectly; that would be an issue for your seller.
You may want to revisit the repair to make sure any cables surrounding or under the battery weren't damaged in the process of replacing it.
Any technical information we can provide depends on your providing the system model -- Inspiron 3501, 5593, etc. Look on the setup screen (F2 at powerup) for the model number.

I have the exact same problem after replacing the battery on my 2019 Inspiron laptop. It is ridiculous that Dell does not sell replacement batteries for it recent products and people are forced to source these items from, now what appears to be, unreputable third party suppliers. I will certainly not be buying any Dell products in future.

If that's your criterion for buying a notebook computer, you won't be buying anything -- since at five years old, every major manufacturer considers a system end of life and ceases supplying parts (there are even manufacturers who set the clock to three years when parts support ends).

I just had this problem after changing the battery in my Inspiron 5491 2n1 laptop.
The battery exchange was successful but when I booted up the Touchpad would move the mouse pointer but I could not get right or left click on the bottom of the Touch pad to work (no pop-up menu).
A symptom of this problem is you don't feel or hear a click when you press down on the bottom right or left of the Touchpad.
My problem was when I put the case back together after the battery swap I torqued the two screws under the Touchpad too tightly. These are the two screws on the back of the case directly under the Touchpad. I powered off the laptop, flipped it over, and loosened each screw about one turn.
On bootup everything worked normally.
Don't worry about slightly loosening the two screws. I believe they all have a bit of lock-tight on the bottom of the threads to keep them from loosening during use and falling out.
Hope this hint helps anyone with the issue.
