Inspiron G3 15-3579, randomly freezes

My laptop that I bought back in August has this reoccurring problem that occurs more and more frequently. It randomly freezes and nothing works, not even ctrl+alt+delete. However if i simply unplug the power supply or shut the lid and reopen it, it works perfectly fine. Anyone else notice this problem or know a solution?

Current Config:

Intel i7-8750h

1050 ti

PC 401 NVME SK hynix 512 GB

I'm on the process of communication with one of their Mods/Community Engr. You can try following the previous messages in this thread and see if any of those guidelines would fix your issue.

As for my end, the issue still persist.

Please do share any information if by any chance you come across with a solution with this one.

Thanks

I fixed my problem by turning off Turbo Boost. Now I can FINALLY use my laptop while charging! :-)

Hi,

Where can I find the turbo boost settings?

The same thing is happening to me on my G3 - I bought it mid 2018 and it started freezing around December. It is getting more and more frequent (Happened twice writing this message) and the only way to get around it is to plug and unplug the charger or close the lid.

WHERE IS THE FIX

Maybe the fix is to sell it online. I'd even consider a Mac I'm so angry.

Hi VoyagerOne2,

I am working with boysweetpotato on this issue. I will escalate this to the product team based on the outcome.

For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

How to locate the service tag

Add mine to the list. Updated BIOS a week and half ago and just had two freezes.  G3 2779.

Hey Guys, I do suggest that if you have a G3 and having the same problem, make it known to Dell by updating this thread and sending them a direct message so that they can act on this with urgency because this is not just not happening for a few number of people, but MANY people all over the internet is ranting about this one now. Don't know with Dell what is their jam of not putting an urgency on this one like a bug release notes or whatever so that customers wont be like wandering in the dark looking all over the net for some fix

I noticed something strange. When I perform a document scan with my scanner/printer in USB, the keyboard and the mouse start to block during the transfer. When the transfer is finished, everything works again.

I still think that the problem comes from the USB.

Thanks.

same here, bought this laptop a week ago and experiencing constantly random freezes !!!

done the bios update, graphics and everything in the dell drivers update site, still randomly freeze.

I can't believe it, I am trying out Dell laptop I buy after years ; on other products like Lenovo, not a single random freezes there in years of using on personal and pro usage.

DELL, you have to fix this !! or else, I will send back my laptop and never come to Dell again.

This might help: https://superuser.com/questions/627665/how-to-disable-intel-turbo-boost-on-my-dell-laptop-with-i5-processor Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options and click Change plan settings near your plan (e.g. I use High performance for CPU intensive tasks, such as gaming). Then click on Change advanced power settings. Scroll down to Processor power management and expand it. Expand Maximum processor state and modify both On battery and Plugged in to 99%. Then simply click Apply and OK.

hi tamjord2, I've done disabling the intel turbo boost and i can see that the freeze has been gone for almost a week now, my only concern remaining is the printer and scanner. most of the time that we will connect the printer and scanner to our laptop and begin sending data it still freezes but not all the time. but there's a chance that it would freeze. I will reply back also in a DM with the Dell rep here in the community.

Hi CPU_8086, noticed this one also yesterday, as I have been monitoring my G3's performance after I've disabled the turbo boost feature. It has shown improvement and does not freeze when Im browsing, playing, watching etc. However when we begin to use our printer and scanner, it will then begin to take a random freeze again. Weird. btw, you can also send a DM to one of the community rep to further advance your case. Regards

Sorry, I mean to say it hasn't crashed at all since making that change.

I've spoken to one of their reps through Reddit and my problem seems to have been resolved. All I did was install an older version of the Intel HD driver by following this link (https://dell.to/2QWAE4z) and restarting my PC. I've turned turbo boost off. My computer hasn't crashed for hours. Before, it was every 10 mins.
