Laptop Operating Speed
I have the XPS 13 listed above that I purchased in 2017 and it still runs rather well. I also bought a Dell Inspiron 17 3000 series for my wife and it has been the worst-performing laptop I've ever owned. Slow, slow, slow. Says it has an Intel 10th generation i3-1005G1 Processor (4 MB cache, up to 3.4 GZ). I've tried everything to make it work faster and just can't figure it out. May just trash it. Even a Junior High kid would want something faster.
Help me out. I'm told that Processor speed in GZ and RAM contribute to operating speed. Is that all there is to it? What laptop in the Dell line besides my old XPS 13 will work fast? I mean on startup, when saving files, when processing updates, etc. How to judge operating speed?

An i3 CPU will never be a performer, but if the system has less than 8G RAM and/or runs from a spinning hard drive, those two are even more likely to be the cause of slow performance than the CPU is.
So, while the CPU does factor in, the less RAM you have, the more swapping to disc the system will need to do -- and if that's to slow conventional hard drive instead of solid state drive, it'll be an even bigger performance drain.

A slow operating speed on a Dell laptop can be caused by a variety of factors. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially improve the speed of your lapmargin: 0;">Check System Resources:

Remember that laptops have a natural lifespan, and as they age, they might not perform as well as they did when they were new. If your laptop is several years old, you might eventually encounter limitations due to hardware capabilities.
