Lights? No power lite. No battery lite. No network activity lite. No drive light. No lights?

I'm beyond disappointed ... my new DELL has no lights.

Dell Inspiron 17 3780 i3780-5032BLK 17.3" Laptop Computer, Intel® Core™ i5-8265U

My response to "How do you like your new machine?

No lights.  If you want lights.  Don't get DELL.

@bjm_

While looking at your findings I found something else that I need to look into further???

I see know that you have a "SMART" AC and a "SMART" battery???

What I think you are seeing is the "SMART" power system charge and discharge of the battery.

If you have "Dell Power Manger" see what the settings are???

U2

Press Fn+H and look at the light next to the power adapter plug. It should now show hard drive activity.

See if the manual helps--

This service manual has the lights codes, so there are lights! See System diagnostic lights on pg 106.

Welcome to the Dell Community  @bjm_

I know what you mean.

I like to at least see the HDD activity light???

That's like the heart of the system.

If you see HDD activity at least you know it is alive!!!

Best regards,

U2

As @Mary G  said look at page 106!!!

So, what does light next to 1 indicate?   If light next to 1 indicates power battery status...then shame on Dell.

No network traffic light, No sleep indication, No power on light (other than Caps Lock light).

Bring back external battery, too.

Sorry to say @bjm_ that's it.

I guess it helps extend battery run time???

No power wasted on lights.

And saves production cost and weight???

Is this the future of all laptops???

U2

Well, new machine has SSD boot drive and HDD storage drive.  I don't know whether any SSD machines have activity light like I'm used to on an HDD machine.
I'd like a power button light to indicate power on and sleep state (blinking) like I'm used to and I'd like network activity light like I'm used to seeing at ethernet plug.

Edit: just now found what appears to be network activity light next to power cord?

Okay.  I see page 106.  But, I'm not finding lights on machine (other than light next to power cord that looks like network activity/traffic.

Only light I see is next to 1.

What does light next to 1 indicate?   Power light would be at the power button?

Edit: light next to 1 with power adapter plugged in and battery at 100% is not solid white.
Light next to 1 blinks like it's showing network activity/traffic.

Anyone confirm?  @U2CAMEB4ME , @Mary G

This Inspiron 7786 has only one light - for charging battery. My first Dell, and probably last...

Light on my Dell next to 1 shows network activity/traffic.

Light does not follow below.  Light blinks network traffic with power adapter connected and battery 100%.

I wonder if the OP's laptop is like mine the only light on my Inspiron 5559 There is only one light on the lower left hand side of the bottom front of the laptop. The light does the following at least from my observations. OFF: laptop is off or on and the battery is fully charged or on battery but the battery has sufficient charge. Solid white: comes on briefly when laptop is powered on and stays on while charging. Solid orange: Low Battery, Windows 8 and later will probably also give you the "Your battery is low" dialog box at the same time this comes on. Blinking orange: Battery lose or bad. I have not experienced the bad battery issue...YET but given the laptop's age it will happen at some point.

My light next to 1 is never solid white....never solid orange.  Light blinks with network traffic.   With Computer running on battery and battery is more than 5% of charge.  Light blinks with network traffic.  Light on my Dell does not follow >
