my battery isn't charging/error code 2000-0131

hi everyone. untill 2 days ago, my laptop(INSPIRON 5459, windows 10) worked just fine. suddenly from nowhere the system dont charge the battery, in setup menu, it recognizes the adapter, but it shows "communication error" on battery health. and on diagnostics, it shows that error code: 2000-0131. i tried to reseat the battery, it didnt work. and hence the battery is in 1%, i cant update the bios. when hovering the pointer, it shows "1% available, plugged in".  what can i do in this situation? TIA.

N.B. it only runs when adapter is connected. if i unplug adapter, laptop immedietly shuts down.

At 7 years old (approximately) the battery could indeed need replacing though that error code could be caused by another issue. This forum post has more information on the cause and possible corrections.

In the meantime, error code 2000-0131 means an error occurred during the tests that may involve the main system board or battery of the system. I would suggest removing the battery to see if it will fix the error code by following the steps below.

1. Power off system, remove all peripherals, AC adapter and battery. Press " Power On" button for 15 seconds to release Static Flea Power.

2. Replace battery, adapter, power on system. Hopefully there's no more error code.

As for the no boot device:

I suggest you Reset the BIOS to Default Values to see if that will fix the error.

@JOcean  thank u for ur reply.i was away a bit from my device and thats why i couldnt test it properly. i am also thinking about replacing the battery as its almost 6/7years old( bought i@2017, used around 1year, and switched to another device. it was not very often used since then.). but what i know from that error code is the battery isnt faulty, its just couldnt connect with the system. thats why i was trying to reconnect with that same battery. otherwise its quite possible for a Li-ion battery to be unusable if its not been used for a while.

thanx for ur reply. i'll consider to replace the battery if all other option goes in vein.

I’m having the same problem, except my computer is only 2 years old.

Make sure the DCIM cable is fully installed, I had the same problem after cleaning off old thermal paste and putting some new paste, this is my 3rd time on my Inspiron 7577 from 2017 and I always carefully put everything back except this time I overlooked that one connection. It would be located next to the port you connect the charge cable. You only have to remove the bottom panel to access this cable’s connection, as easy as accessing the ram. I suspect the same thing is happening for you because this isn’t the error for a bad battery but rather the charge process. It doesn’t like how the charge cable connected but that error was thrown because the DCIM cable was needing to be pushed in another 2 millimeters.

Also… it technically could also be the case that your charge cable is bad on the end, or that the laptop was connected to charge cable while tension was applied at an angle and the charge port could have been damaged. You could use a multimeter and see if the charge cable tip is ok and the charge port.
