NIC problems

Last week the laptop stopped displaying wireless networks for a friend. Did some troubleshooting and found that there was an error with the NIC and the Bluetooth hardware in the Device Manager. Did the normal, remove device and let Windows detect new devices. Again, it showed the same problems with the devices. Downloaded the latest drivers from Dell, but we keep getting an error message when trying to install the drivers. It says the user does not have permissions to install the driver, and need to elevate to Administrator permissions. There is only the one account on the machine, and the machine is not part of a domain.
