No audio output devices found - Win 11

Inspiron 3501

Inspiron 3501

Hi,

Got a problem with my audio on this laptop. I noticed a crackiling sound on my external speakers a while ago it it got too loud. It got worse the longer I played audio. Same thing happened with the internal laptop speakers.

I disabled the soundcard in Device manager and rebooted. That seemed to fix the issue for a about 10mins but then the crackling sound appeared again. After a few days, using only laptop speakers I got a very loud mechanical screeching sound that lasted about 10 seconds.

After another reboot I completely lost audio. Internal and external via 3.5mm jack don't work. Sound is off on the taskbar and it prompts 'no output devices found'.

Troubleshooter wont help. The soundcard doesn't appear in device manager. I've rolled back win11 to original state, downloaded all the drivers off Dells website. Still no change.

Internal speakers don't work, nothing works off the jack. But my Bluethooth speaker and bluethoot headphones both work. Soundcard doesn't appear in Device manager even after installing the latest one. I've checkd BIOS and audio devices are enabled.

Anyone got any ideas?

Let me know, thanks.

That system seems to have audio drivers for Realtek, Cirrus and an optional Waves MaxxAudio Pro.  Which driver/s are you currently using?

Are you installing the drivers yourself or letting the app do it?

What is the origin of the music you are playing, such as streaming or on your system?

The available OSes contain Windows 11 S-mode, so are you using that version?  The actual processor may also be relevant since it appears there are several choices.

Hi Saltgrass,

Thank you very much for your reply!

Cirrus was originally installed so that's what I've downloaded off Dell's website. The website automatically detects my laptop. After a reboot the sound icon in the tastbar still has an X next to it and clicking the arrow on the right of the volume bar prompts 'no output devices found'. Cirrus doesn't appear in device mangager either but it used to. Troubleshooter says to restart but that doesn't fix the issue.

Both my bluethooth devices appear in device manager. My sound system works off another device so can't be the jack, amp or speakers?! I'm also not getting anything from the internal speakers. That's for steaming or tracks off my HD including Win notifications. I'm not running Win in S mode.

Chip is 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-1115G4 @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz

Thank you.

If it doesn't work with the Cirrus, maybe try the Realtek.  If the Realtek drivers install and get sound back, go ahead and download and install the Waves MaxxAudioPro so you will have a pop-up for plugging something in.

I found this link in case you did not see it.  Maybe it would help.

Hello there facing the exact same issue now for me felt like it's after a BIOS update. Did you find a way to fix it? Mine is not fixed and it appeared for me almost a month ago

Yeap I have a Dell 7400 and also have no sound apart from Bluetooth speakers/headphones.

I also have a Bluetooth issue while I connect my Bluetooth if I'm watching a video on a browser, the sound wont work, or the screen will freeze, I have to re-boot.

If no browser is open when I connect, it works fine.

Computers, eh.

Similar issue after updating to Windows 11 on my Dell Latitude 3590. Suddenly the internal mic and speakers do not work and anything I plug into the audio jack will also not work. Win11 tells me that I have no audio devices and does not show a driver option in Device Manager. However, if I plug it into my Dell dock, and plug speakers or a mic into the dock, they appear and work fine. If I use a Bluetooth mic or speakers, it works fine. Somehow, the audio card does not see the onboard speakers, mic or jack anymore. I contacted Dell support previously about this, earlier this year, and they told me to update the driver while it is showing in Device Manager when connected to my dock, but the driver already says it is the most current. They even had me uninstall and reinstall it and it makes no difference. Not sure if this is a Win11 issue or just mere coincidence that the sound card suddenly has issues after upgrading from Win10, on which it worked fine for over 5 years.

My laptop is obviously no longer under warranty, but is this something that Dell can fix? I want to give this laptop to my kid, but I want to fix this first. If Dell can fix it, I will happily ship it back, if they can confirm it can be done and what it would cost to do. If not, I will try someplace local like GeekSquad or something.

In short, swapping/reinstalling drivers doesn't fix it. Most likely the sound card needs to be replaced.

Also, my latitude 5540 has now lost sight of my on-board speakers.  Reinstalled the drivers (RealTek) and still nothing. I had been using my 3.5 mm headphones for work. But unplugged and now no sound with "No output devices found" message in Settings --> Sound. Has anyone found a fix? I am up to date on Windows 11.

@mebeling23 When plugging the 3.5mm headphones and at that time the audio is working means you're Soundcard is working without any issues otherwise the 3.5mm will not be detected by windows.

This could be an issue particularly tied to any driver faults,

Have you recently installed or updated windows 11, if then reinstating the whole audio driver may fix the problem.

since your series of latitude 5540 comes with 2 types of sound card one is of Realtek DCH Driver more of a new approach which is integrated to motherboard by USB and the other one is traditional

so, either of this will be equipped please do confirm and download the appropriate from the given link

Recommended approach will be uninstalling the Previous Audio Drivers And install freshly

Realtek Audio Driver

Realtek Audio DCH Driver

To confirm you can enter the service of your model so the downloads list will be filtered automatically.

And if you Highly suspect the issue of Chip fault consult Dell, as hoping the model being new it can be covered under warranty. To confirm it

open StartMenu > Search > My Dell or Dell Support Assist.
