RAM support Dell g7 7590

Does the Dell g7 7590 i7 9th gen 1660ti support DUAL RANK (not talking about dual channel) ram at the default 2666mhz

planning on upgrading the default 8gb to 2x 8gb (16gb) using the crucial basics dual rank 8gb modules

saw it on a random reddit thread that a lot of cpu/mobos dont support DUAL RANK at the default speeds

looking forward to a quick response

(in essence can i use DUAL RANKED 2x 8gb sticks (ie in dual channel) in my dell g7 at the default 2666mhz (again not talking about dual channel asking purely for dual rank)

Welcome to the Dell Community @Manab Dutta

I thought dual-rank memory was for servers and not individual laptops???

It will be interesting to hear what Dell has to say about this.

I wonder then if quad-rank is acceptable.

Let us know what Dell has to say.

Best regards,

What is a Memory Rank?

https://uk.crucial.com/support/articles-faq-memory/what-is-a-memory-rank?ef_id=Cj0KCQiAkuP9BRCkARIsAKGLE8XEdcrqyCBm9igmG3kP49j0guOXLTLo9zvzWpL0in0qP13qtFAlpOIaAhCNEALw_wcB:G:s&gclid=Cj0KCQiAkuP9BRCkARIsAKGLE8XEdcrqyCBm9igmG3kP49j0guOXLTLo9zvzWpL0in0qP13qtFAlpOIaAhCNEALw_wcB

"  In general it tends to matter primarily on server platforms. "

A memory rank is a block or area of data that is created using some, or all, of the memory chips on a module.

Best regards and have a nice day,

The only thing dual rank means is that the modules have memory chips on both sides.  Single ranked modules have chips on only one side.

Either type will work, as the physical structure of the module matters only for very slim systems that can't accommodate a physically larger dual ranked module - it has nothing to do with the operation of the RAM.

well yeah o thought the same too but there seem to be a lot of ram modules out there that have dual rank

and after reading something along the lines of what i mentioned im a bit paranoid as i dont wanna spend on something that might not run at full potential

so yeah guess the short ans is " yes dual rank memory should work fine" (lemme know of that right )
