RAM Upgrade - Inspiron

Hi,

I would like to ask if it's worth it to upgrade the RAM of my Inspiron 13-5378 to 16gb (8gb originally). If yes, what kind of RAM should I buy? I know that it is DDR4 but I don't know the specifics. Also, when I viewed the Intel Optane Memory and Storage, I saw that there is another SATA port. Does it mean that I could expand my storage, perhaps another HDD or SSD?

Thank you!

You can upgrade to 16 GB of DDR4 2133 RAM. You can find that RAM here at Crucial.  Now is it worth it, I would say yes as applications and gaming will take advantage of the additional RAM. And since your system is only 4 years old or so, that would be a worthwhile update. Your system can only hold 1 drive. Either HDD or SSD. Now if you want to improve the performance of your system, and you have an HDD installed now, I would also suggest an SSD. The speed boost over an HDD is very noticeable.

I'll take it all into consideration. Also, can I combine the current ram I have (which is the SK Hynix DDR4 8GB 2400) with the Crucial 8GB 2400 SODIMM recommended to me? Thank you!

Assuming that the Hynix RAM came with the system from Dell, there is a very good chance the 2 types will play nice together. But the absolute best way to do it is to buy a 16 GB kit from Crucial. That way you are assured of compatibility. But try it and see as there is every possibility it will work together.
