Spacebar, enter and backspace keys not working

Question: the spacebar, enter and backspace keys are not working on my laptop - how do I fix this? We've used the Dell SupportAssist functions on the laptop, running diagnostic checks, and there's nothing wrong with the keyboard. The rest of the keys work fine and, intermittently, these three keys start working again. Nothing has been spilt on the keyboard. Some others have had this issue of these specific three keys not working and in their cases, it turned out to be a bug. How do I fix it in my case?

Possible that it's a virus and a scan with an anti virus program will indicate if that is the case. But try an external USB keyboard first and if it works properly then you are probably looking at a keyboard replacement.

This web page may offer some help as well. And this site as well.

I was experiencing the same problem. I opened the back of my laptop and disconnected the battery for approximately 30 seconds. I reconnected the battery, put back the cover and rebooted my computer. Everything is working fine now. I am not tech savvy so, I don't know if this was just a fluke, or I actually corrected the problem. Bottom line though, is my computer is now working properly.

Thank you, you made my day! Disconnecting the battery helped in my case as well. You do NOT need to replace your keyboard.

This solution worked on Inspiron 7620 which means that it's a common problem for many different models

Sometimes the driver may be corrupted or outdated, and then the connection between the keyboard and your operating system is corrupted, leading to the issue – Backspace, Spacebar or Enter key not working. So, trying to reinstall or update the keyboard driver can be helpful in Windows 10/8/7.
