Unable to install Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver
Hello,
I have been trying to install Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver with no luck as the installation fails with error code 0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation. I've tried installing it by extracting separately and also running is an admin, but still no luck.

I have the same issue, both the left ports on my XPS 15 are of limited use, I can use the top one for charging and the bottom one for USB, the top one doesn't accept data and even the dell supplied DA20 dongle doesn't show up when connected to the top TB4 USB-C port. The top port works for charging, the bottom port sometimes does, sometimes does not. I can't reinstall the ThunerBolt Controller drivers because of this 0x80070643 error. This issue looks like it is more widespread than I first thought.

Absolutely correct! Recently I tried to "update" TB driver and received "fatal error". Then under Device Management I checked the current TB driver - it was the same as the "update" offered by Dell. Can they not come up with anything less stressful to see, like you suggested "This version is already installed"?

I'm having the same issue with the same error code. I've run my computer through every update, and I still get this same error code, Error 0x80070643 when I try to install the thunderbolt driver even from the Dell website.

I am having the same issue: Error 0x80070643.
It is just UNBELIEVABLE that this thread/topic has been started in 2021 and up to THIS DATE we have no fix for it despite SO MANY users having the same issue! It's a shame! Dell was good back in the day when they had one of the greatest supports out there. But that was over 10 years ago. Today? Well, you can tell by this thread.... So if you have still hope, stop looking for a solution here, throw your Dell out and get a new computer!
And yes, I tried everything suggested in this thread and even more! Nothing did it!

To all who end up in this thread, as I did. Welcome
Another user in this thread had a solution that worked for me, so I will repeat it with a more detailed explanation.
Credit to "Johnatan" on page 3
The issue appears to be that the new thunderbolt drivers are failing to remove and overwrite the old drivers. This can be resolved through the device manager
Right click on "start" (the Windows icon at the corner of your taskbar) and select "Device Manager"
Within the device manager, open the category "System Devices"
Scroll down to Thunderbolt(TM) Controller - (model number here)
*Right click on it, and select "Uninstall Device" and check the box "delete the driver software for this device"
Once it has been removed, run the Thunderbolt installer again, or the update through the Dell Command Updater.
*If you are worried about uninstalling the driver in device manager, fret not. The driver will reinstall itself on reboot as long as you have an internet connection.
