Update processor inspiron N5010 I5 M480
Hello, I want to update the processor and I don't know what can fit on the Inspiron N5010 i5
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 480 @ 2.67GHz 2.66 GHz
Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.80 GB usable)

The processor socket type for this laptop is FCPGA988, and it supports Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors of the first generation (Arrandale and Clarkdale). The maximum processor you can install is Intel Core i7-620M or i7-620LM. You can check the official Dell website or the laptop manual for more information on the compatible processors.

This forum thread has more information, and be aware to replace the CPU requires a teardown on the system which, if you are not confident enough to do it, will require a quality PC shop.

The laptop is 12 years old. I do not believe that upgrading the processor would be worthwhile, unless you can get a compatible processor at no cost.
You are already at the maximum 8 GB RAM, so you cannot add more memory.
Installing an SSD would be worthwhile. That will make your system feel faster and more responsive. You may choose any 2.5" SATA SSD, such as these compatible SSDs from Crucial.
At 12 years old, the thermal compound has dried out and cannot adequately transfer heat away from the processor, and there may be a lot of dust inside the laptop and maybe inside the fan and heat fins. So, your laptop is unable to adequately cool itself and your processor may throttle and reduce its speed.
You might consider an internal cleaning. Open it up to clean out dust. Disassemble the fan to clean out dust and fluff. I found a fair bit in two laptops I worked on recently. Remove the heat sink, remove the old thermal compound and apply new thermal compound before reinstalling the heat sink.
While you're in there, replace the CMOS battery. If it isn't dead, it soon will be. BIOS settings and date/time can't be saved without a functioning CMOS battery.
Follow the disassembly and reassembly steps in Dell's Service Manual.
Look on YouTube for videos showing disassembly of your model. But, be cautious with them, as some use steps or methods that are not appropriate. Use the videos to add to your understanding of what to do, but follow the steps in Dell's manual.
Whenever touching components or working inside a computer, wear a grounded wrist strap, also called anti-static wrist strap, ESD wrist strap, or ground bracelet. It's a cheap and sensible precaution. Rest the laptop on an anti-static mat or at least a reasonable alternative such as corrugated cardboard.

The 620LM CPU is not an option here -- it's a BGA CPU designed to be soldered to a mainboard. The system in question has a socket, not solder pads.
Only the 620M of that pair will work in this model.
