Upgrade to Windows11 Failure
My three month old Inspiron 7506 2n1 will not install the Windows11 upgrade from Windows 10 Pro.
This is the second issue I have experienced with this product since purchase. The first one (still not resolved) is detailed in https://www.dell.com/community/Inspiron/BSOD-igdkmdnd64-sys-SYSTEM-SERVICE-EXCEPTION/td-p/7859003/page/9
I attempted twice today to perform the upgrade, but it failed both times, the reason quoted in the WindowsUpdate.log is 0xC1900101
Why is this happening? Updates within Windows 10 are being applied successfully.

Have you enabled SecureBoot and made sure that TPM is also enabled? I assume you are enrolled in the Insider program and in the Beta or Release Channel? Also run the PC Health app to make sure that all your settings are correct as your system is compatible with Windows 11 per Dell. That app is available here.
Also keep in mind that the official release date is October 5th so as of that date the update will show but it is being rolled out in a measured way so some users may not see the update until next year. But after the 5th there should be a link on the MS site for a media creation tool so an image can be downloaded onto a USB.

I have again attempted to upgrade to Windows 11 with this Inspiron 7506 2n1 laptop purchased from Dell UK in June 2021. This is the third time today I have received the same error (0xC1900101-0x40017).
When I ran SetupDIag this generated a report "the image file C:\Program Files (X86)\Windows Kits\Debuggers\arm\kd.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine"
How does this get resolved?

Try downloading the media creation file which will create a bootable Windows 11 flashdrive. You can also try the Windows Installation Assistant on the same page which is primarily for update installations. Both of those options are on this page. The WIA is the first choice and the media tool is the 2nd choice.

JOcean,
I too have the same issue. Dell 7506 laptop, 10 months old.
PC Health Check says my laptop passes....plenty of SSD Space, 16gb ram; 11TH gen i7 processor
Secure Boot = On / Enabled
BIOS Mode = UEFI
I worked with Microsoft for an hour, also no success.
Downloads fine
Installs fine
Reboots to updating.. gets to 65% and struggles....Attempting to recover installation (fails)
Restoring your Computer... and I'm back to Win 10.
I've tried:
Disabling ALL Services, except Microsoft based ones.
Startup, disabled everything
UNinstalled my Third party virus software, Kaspersky
I used the same link as provided by the Microsoft agent for the WIA.. .no luck.
So is it Dell and some internal hardware mis-match?
My relatively new laptop?
Microsoft and the new Windows 11?
So while not expecting you to solve my issue, what would be VERY Helpful, is pointing me in the right direction. Who do I turn to for additional support? Microsoft? Dell?
Lost.... and giving up on Windows 11 for now.
Problem has been Self-Resolved, by me!
I was having issues installing/upgrading to Windows 11 and had also contacted Microsoft Support.
Microsoft had numerous ideas for me to try.. .none of which succeeded.
Finally, online I found some Windows 11 Install issues, similar to mine. A solution given was to uninstall my video driver, then begin the Upgrade process. This succeeded and re-installed the video driver as part of the process. I’m now successfully running Windows 11.

I recently came across this post and thread. I have been having the same issue with updating my Dell 7506. I am coming across the same issues. My laptop downloads and installs the Windows 11 upgrade. When my laptop gets around 60% complete, it restores everything back to Windows 10.
I have spent a few hours on the phone with tech support. I keep running into the same brick wall. They have no idea what is going on. It feels like every time I call tech support; they are talking off a script and can't provide me with any support. Tech support keeps telling me it is a software issue with Microsoft and Windows 11.
Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Anyone was able to solve this issue? Same here with an eligible Inspiron 5491 .
When I try upgrading using the Installation Assistant it returns error 0xC1900101 and using the conventional "Check for updates" it gives error 0x8007007f.

Have you tried looking up the error codes? I was finally able to get my dell laptop 7506 to be updated to Windows 11. I backed up my files to my portable hard drive. I reformatted everything back to Windows 10 for a clean install. I had to do a couple of basic updates for Windows 10. Make sure that you don't have any anti-virus software installed.
I downloaded the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool to a portable thumb drive. I was able to upgrade to Windows 11 with the thumb drive.
Everything has been working well the past couple of days.
Hope that helps.

Good morning. Yes, I was able to resolve the upgrade issue on my end. I had to download the Windows 11 upgrade onto a thumb drive.

I would suggest running SFC Scan now command to see if it can fix the error codes - see link below).
Use SFC Scannow to Repair Windows System Files (lifewire.com)
After, try installation assistant again, hopefully windows 11 install this time:

"I attempted twice today to perform the upgrade, but it failed both times, the reason quoted in the WindowsUpdate.log is 0xC1900101" I copied this message, i have the same problem since month ago. every download and install, machine removed everything "undoing change" I don't know whether it is related to Dell support program i purchase - i regret signing up for this service, it does more harm than good to my pc. Anyone have any suggestion to upgrade to Win11 is much apprecaited/

did you received error message such as 'undoing change' while you run Win11? do you remember step to run on memory drive? how did you do it? I had tried many times and Dell Inspiron keeps 'undoing changes" and default to Win10- thanks a bunch if you can share info
