Wifi Turned Off

Question

Hi,

My wifi on Dell Inspiron has turned off and i cannot turn it on.

I tried to use the option for Fn+F2 which doesn't seem to help either.

I am able to turn on the wifi button as shown above.

But when i go to the option for Airplane mode, the wifi is greyed out and cannot be turned on.

See below.

Wifi is working fine on all other devices but the laptop and the wifi was working fine even on this laptop fw days back. No sure what went wrong since.

That is what airplane mode is---wifi turned off as it says on the airplane mode page. Don't use it unless you are forced to on a plane. Run the wifi troubleshooter to find out what other problems you have with your connection.

Depending on your system configuration, you may not need to use the Fn key with one of the F keys. Use the Winkey+R to open a Run box and enter ncpa.cpl and hit enter. When the window opens, does your Wi-Fi adapter show as available and if it is not enabled, can you enable it? Next, if it isn't working, check the Device Manager and see if the Wi-Fi adapter shows without any warnings. The Device Manager can be opened by right clicking the windows button and select it from the menu. If Airplane mode is enabled, it will disable both the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Thanks for your response.

The airplane mode does shows the wifi turned off.

But the issue I am having is that even when the airplane mode is turned off, still the wifi ON-OFF button is inactive. So, can't physically turn the wifi on.

Saltgrass,Thanks for the response.The Wi-Fi adaptor shows enabled but also as&#xa0;NOT Connected.&#xa0;And it shows as enabled&#xa0;When I attempt to connect the wifi, it shows the dial as&#xa0;below showing wifi is turned off. It does say that it has to be turned ON manually, I don't know how.

How did you reset the network adapter.  I am having the same problem and have tried so many things, I even bought a new network card and that didn't work either.  So frustrating.

Yeah I’m also having the same problem, I changed the network adapter, and it still says 'you aren’t connected to any networks'

Try this: Enter in your Bios and Reset it into Default.

I also had the same exact problem. Turns out that I had inadvertently pressed Fn + F2 key. I just pressed it again and I can get wifi turn on option again. And it's working fine now.

This happens sometimes when you postpone windows update. Please check the update tab in settings and make sure to install and complete the pending updates. Once the updates are installed, the drivers that are in mixed state are upgraded and should pick up and start upon restart..

Resetting the BIOS/UEFI settings to default resolved this issue for me.
