Won’t Finish Startup
I’m stuck on the dell loading screen.
How I got there and what I’ve tried:
First our fan made a weird noise when we tilted the laptop while moving it around one night. We closed the laptop and it didn’t make the noise when we opened it back up while it sat on the desk. But the next day, we tried to start the computer up it beeped at us SUPER LOUD and we had to pull the battery out.
The screen said something about an error with the fan.
We put the battery back in and the machine started up but the fan wouldn’t turn on despite the computer getting really warm quite quickly because we were loading into a video game.
We immediately turned the whole thing back off and, after it cooled for a few minutes, opened up the computer and made sure that nothing was actually jamming the fan. It was fine, but we had trouble finding where a little plastic piece went. We eventually found it went by the front on the palm rest and it probably only came loose when I was opening the case based on sounds. We reassembled the computer.
Under the keyboard there are five screws and the screw hole labeled 1 wouldn’t take any of the screws, the hole was too big, so we decided to put the screw into the hole next to it, that it does fit in, figuring it would still secure the whole thing together. (I would wonder if this was the problem, but the system says the hardware is all in order, including the fan! I guess it could still be the issue?)
All back together, we turn on the computer and get stuck on the dell loading screen.
I tried f12 and the diagnostics and memory tests came up clean.
I tried removing the battery and the ac adaptor, holding the power button for 20 seconds to drain the power and starting again.
Latest, I tried pressing 4 and loading into safe mode and now I’m stuck on the dell logo, without even the little, endless loading circle.
Please help?

It’s an Inspiron 15 3000. I can’t figure out where in the manual it would say that? And wouldn’t it not be capable of running a clean diagnostics thing if that were the case??

Without knowing the system model, it's a shot in the dark, but the issue with the the screw placement is ominous in sound. Use the system model to look up the service manual for the system and then check inside to make sure your placement of the screw did not short or damage anything.

The full model number is on the system label and on the setup screen (F2 at powerup). There are many models in the 15-3000 series -- and many are different.
The fact that it will run a diagnostic but won't pass POST to the drive could mean any one of a number of things. If the system has a hard drive, that may be damaged -- or an SSD that's been similarly damaged. Look inside the system to see if the errant screw placement shorted something out.
The diagnostics run entirely from the system board - not from the storage drive, which is the most likely source of the problem. That could have been physically damaged from a misplaced screw -- or by excess heat.
