Decrees the NL400 from 48 to 24 GB RAM

Hi,

We are facing a problem with Isilon NL400 (108TB)

Our NL400 comes with 48GB RAM from factory, we need to add this NL to existing Cluster that configured with 24GB RAM.

We need to decrees the NL400 from 48 to 24 GB RAM.

Please advise how or what we need to do to solve this issue.

Best,

Ariel

Last year we went the other way, adding a 48GB node to a 12G cluster via upgrading the RAM in the other nodes.  It was a colossal nightmare.  Only after engaging the head of Isilon engineering we were finally given a way to accomplish the upgrade "online".

In your case would I think there are three ways to accomplish this.

  1. Downgrade the 48GB node and get a new "receipt" for it so that will merge without hassle with the rest of the nodes.
  2. There is a way to mark the nodes as "compatible" so they will join the same pool via the standard procedure.
  3. Upgrade the existing nodes to 48gb.  Be warned that you will need to fight unless you want them to take the cluster offline to do the upgrade.  Don't let them tell you it's not possible for stateless clients like NFS.

Either way it's a highly complicated process that will require tools that customers are not allowed to DIY.
