Gen4 Firmware Compatibility

Hello,

I hav got a question concerning compatibility of node firmware package with gen4 nodes (in this case X200). Is it supported to install 10.2.1 Node Firmware Package on a X200 Isilon cluster? Cluster is running OneFS 7.2.

There are contradictory statements in 10.2.1 release notes and Isilon Supportabliity Guide (Sept 2018) regarding compatibility this version to gen4 clusters.

Some confusion details:

Isilon Supportabliity Guide (page 32: NOT supported):
https://support.emc.com/docu44518_Isilon-Supportability-and-Compatibility-Guide.pdf?language=en_US

10.2.1 Firmware Package Release Notes (page 2):

"Only update firmware with this package if your cluster contains Generation 6 or generation 5 hardware. If your cluster does not contain Generation 6 or Generation 5 hardware, update your firmware with the 9.3.5 Node Firmware Package."

A few lines later it is listed that this node package is compatible with gen4 hardware.

https://support.emc.com/ngoeSitecacheDocs/en_US/support_zone_content/product_documentation/release_notes/isilon_firmware_package_10-2-1_release_notes.pdf

Is this firmware package compatible and supported with gen 4 clusters?

bye

Robert

I believe this has to do with mixed clusters, you would only install that firmware if you will be having different generations in the cluster. If it's all just Gen4 then you would stick with v9.
