GID Inheritance setting in OneFS8.x for 7.x tech refresh
Hello,
I'm working in a project which replaces Customer's old S200 with OneFS 7.1.0.5 to new Gen6 F800 with 8.1.1.1. After reviewing enhancements in isilon release notes, i noticed GID inheritance behavior has changed since 8.x as follows ;
The default value of the Group owner inheritance setting now uses Linux and Windows semantics, and the group
owner is inherited from the creator’s primary group. In previous versions of OneFS, if an ACL existed, OneFS
used Linux and Windows semantics; otherwise, the system used BSD semantics.
To me, at F800 reverting the parameter "Group Owner Inheritance" to "parent" sounds reasonable to avoid potential impact or misbehavior from NFS clients perspective which may be caused by this difference of GID inheritance behavior. I'm just wondering if there's any reason or beneficial points to stay with default value (creator) in my case.
