Is rmtshare supported?

Trying to create a share using rmtshare seems to work, but attempting to grant access privileges returns an error. Tried searching for info on Isilon and rmtshare usage and found a few comment saying it wasn't supported didn't see anything official.

So, am I backing up a wrong tree trying to use rmtshare?

Thanks!

No sir, in current releases of OneFS RMTShare and tools like it that use MSRPC calls for share creation or modification are not supported.  This includes sharedupe, xfershares, rmtshare, as well as Microsoft's MMC plugin for Share Management.  Doing so should not be attempted because in certain circumstances it can cause issues in the gconfig share database.  They are not hard to correct, but better to avoid them in the first place.  As to will this be supported in the future, I would defer you to your EMC Isilon account team that can provide additional information, and so that they can communicate back your exact needs to product management.  If for now you are attempting a data migration to Isilon and attempting to create shares in bulk(where we generally see this question), then I suggest using sharedup or rmtshare to dump a list of the existing shares and their settings to a csv, or to excel, and then use isi smb shares create syntax to create the new shares.  (assuming you have a large number to create).

Hope that helps,

Thanks for the response.

The reason behind the question is that we have a customer who's been using rmtshare as part of an on-demand share creation script currently used on their Celerra and VNX. Unfortunately it seems that won't be as simple as swapping out the rmtshare lines for the isi commands.

Are there any concerns using PowerShell to create shares?
