Issue Backing up w/ Isilon Backup Accelerator
We setup the backup accelerator to work going over the fibre. We are using CommVault Simpana 10 r2 as our backup client and we are seeing hardware errors through CV and have not been able to successfully perform a backup. Additionally we are using Spectra T380 as our tape library. Has anyone run in to this before?
Error logged from Isilon
"ERRO:NDMP tape.c:191:ndmpdTapeOpen error opening tape device: tape001: Device busy."
Error logged from CV
"SCSI Operation: Read OML. Reason: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Advice: If this error is persistent, check if there are any visible hardware errors reported by the device or Operating System logs."

What is the tape drive status from the Spectra library? Can you check the Backup Accelerator settings and see if the library is set with the right SCSI flags? I believe some libraries need SCSI RESERVE disabled, while others need it enabled. There might be something in the installation guide about that. But it seems like the SCSI tape drive status is the problem.

Unfortunately I've looked at almost every piece of EMC documentation on setting up NDMP with CV and have not found anywhere to change or find out if the SCSI reserve is enabled/disabled.

Hi mikej1983,
I can't say I have run into this myself, but if you still aren't having any luck, I would recommend opening a ticket with Isilon Support if you haven't already. They will be able to pull a larger set of information to come to a resolution than would be practical over the forums.

Otherwise, here is an article that at least mention the error that you are receiving:

I do have a case open with EMC and CommVault. Between the two we haven't really been able to solve anything yet.

In addition to your link for NDMP from DMA, we've already done those troubleshooting steps and are still receiving the same errors.
