MTU on Isilon - anything between 1500 and 9000?

Maybe I'm missing something basic - but I'm having an issue when adjusting the MTU for the 10 gig ethernet interface on an Isilon node.  Because of some equipment in the middle (a Mellanox IB to IP gateway) I'm limited to a max MTU of about 4000.  Which is an odd value, I'll admit - but derives from the limit for the MTU when using IP over IB.  On OneFS (7.0.1), my only choices for this setting appear to be 1500 and 9000.  1500 works, 9000 doesn't (obviously).  Is anyone familiar with a way to set it to any value in between?

It should be also possible to type in any value.

If it doesn't work in your browser, you can use the CLI:

isi networks modify subnet --name --mtu

The docs are not very consistent, you find 1500 and 9000 mentioned as "common values",

but also as the only values. "Any value" can also be quoted, together with a strong warning

that all endpoint and switches etc. must be configured to match. Just be careful, and try it.
