unionfs

We have a 17T (3 million file) production share and need to create a copy for test.

First thought is to just copy production (rsync -ax /ifs/production /ifs/test).

Second thought is to mount production as read-only on a linux server and use funionfs or aufs to overlay a writable filesystem.

This sounds great, but funionfs and aufs don't seem to be actively supported any longer.

Does OneFS provide any way of doing this natively?

Create a test share by overlaying the production share?

Thanks,

Ron

Please consider moving this question as-is (no need to recreate) to the proper forum for maximum visibility.  Questions written to the users' own "Discussions" space don't get the same amount of attention and questions can go unanswered for a long time.

You can do so by selecting "Move" under ACTIONS along the upper-right.  Then search for and select: "Isilon Support Forum" which would be the most relevant for this question.

With OneFS 7.0 you can clones files, check out the details from the 7.0 admin guide.

For a whole subtree, probably one has to create a skeleton tree first,

and then populate it with file clones.

Hi Peter,

We do have SnapshotIQ, we are looking in to File Clones now, thanks for the response.  Have you ever used this before?

Thanks for the response, we do not have SyncIQ, we only have one Isilon cluster at the moment.
