Unable to login with root

A recent change to the only access zone on our Isilon disabled our root account from accessing the Isilon via WebUI, SSH, and directly through the serial interface. We're still able to access the zone shares via Active Directory, but are no longer able to make changes to the system.

The setting was made to 'Authenticate Users' for the 'Local Provider' authentication provider for our access zone. It had been inadvertently set to false/disabled.

Is there a solution? Thanks

@DELL-Sam L I guess I should have mentioned that our specific Isilon units are at end of service life, and any support channels that had previously registered the product are likely lost. I was unable to open and view any of the KB articles.

@Phil.Lam Thanks for chiming in. We did not have a root user configured in AD. Contrary to what I thought I knew, the local and file providers do affect the system accounts such as root, and will definitely prevent all access to the system when 'Authenticate Users' is set to 'No'.

In case anyone does the same, I connected one of the nodes via serial connection and entered single user mode. Then I modified the pam.d configuration for login to accept the root account. After restart, I was able to login and re-enable the local provider via 'isi auth modify'. The root account is working as intended again.

@iamnick , make sure AD does not have root user or make it disabled.
