So, may I ask a question here? We also have the 8.2.1.0 Isilon simulator running in our environment and I was specifically told you couldn't upgrade an isilon simulator by our EMC SE's. I was hoping like you to simulate an upgrade from 8.2.1.0 to 8.2.2.0 - but, from what I was told we'd have to re-deploy the 8.2.2.0 simulator ova from scratch.
It sounds as if there is an 8.2.2.0 upgrade bundle tar file out there - and it sounds like you got it at least 'started'? Do you think it's an error/issue with your particular simulator or do you think it's just not upgradeable.
So, thanks to this forum post - I've found out that my local EMC SE's were incorrect. You can in fact upgrade an isilon simulator (upgraded ours today from 8.1.2.0 to 8.2.2.0). I told my SE's and sales team, "..what good is a simulator if you can't simulate an upgrade??" So glad to know, because we have our simulator deployed in our ESX vsphere environment with 3 nodes and maxed out network interfaces. I didn't want to have to completely re-deploy the simulator every release!
We plan on upgrading our production clusters to 8.2.2.0 in October, so it's nice to see the new non-flash cluster status page and 'play around' before then. I suppose in October, we'll download the OneFS 9 bundle and see what it's going to look like as well.
Thanks for your question. It does not support the upgrade currently. It has been escalated to the appropriate groups but I do not have any timeline for when it will be resolved.
This is holding us back upgrading our production clusters to 9.5, as we can't test 9.5 functionality easily without this ability to upgrade a 9.4 Simulator to 9.5.
I do not have any updates on it. Have you tried with the latest patch from a few weeks ago? https://dell.to/3EdRYgC Can you use the 9.5 ova that Phil posted to go straight to 9.5 for testing?
Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.
@DELL-Josh Cr Unfortunately I get the same issue with the 9.5.0.5 upgrade release:
4 2023-08-30T13:45:28 isi_version_checker Error forbid_old_lj: check failed:\n==============\nforbid_old_lj:\n==============\n No support for old linear journal in newer OneFS versions\n
4 2023-08-30T13:45:28 isi_version_checker Error Checks failed
4 2023-08-30T13:45:28 /usr/sbin/isi_upgrade_agent_d Warn Hook Failed [/usr/share/upgrade/event-actions/pre-upgrade-mandatory/isi_upgrade_checker_mandatory]
Creating a new 9.5 simulator cluster doesn't really cut it, as we want to upgrade an existing pre-production 9.4 cluster, which has data in it and is in use, to test compatibility.
I'm trying to upgrade the simulator from 9.1.0.21 to 9.5.0.7, same error message about linear journal not being supported. Did you ever find a solution @johnberanek ? Thank!

@TheEsp
unzip file first, then use the tar file to install.
tar -zxvf OneFS_v8.2.2.0_Install_Bundle_2020-07.tgz

Just saw your post and was curious -

Hi Troy.
I'm going to deploy the 8.2.1.0 simulator and try the same upgrade process on that , see if it's something to do with that particular simulator.
Note that simulator has been used for test upgrades in the past with no issues , it just appears to be this release.
