Oh yes!  I have the very same problem like yours!!!

Even our laptop specifications are similar, the only difference is I have got a 2gb memory.

Also, I formatted the disk and reinstalled the system and updated the most recent drivers provided by DELL. Then when I play computer games, like World of Warcraft, the screen flashes sometimes, although not very frequently, it is annoying!!!

Then, I tried to update my video card driver to the most up to date one provided by nvidia itself. However I found the official driver does not recognize my hardware!

Luckily, some told me that I can go to laptopvideo2go.com, and I went there, and successfully installed the newest driver: 84.20. After that, I went back to the game, and played for a whole afternoon, it seem like the problem was resovled.

Will you also have a try and tell me your condition. OK?

haha.

hehe got the memory last night. Its nice but doesn't seem to be a big difference in the benchmark tests...

...any way, I updated to the same driver as you and it freaked me out at first by flashing several times after logging in. No flashes yet. I'll post a follow up later. Thank you. :)

I haven't played any game long enough to give it a chance to flash black/blank yet.... but! did notice the blank screen problem after closing it/putting it into hibernation seems have been resolved! :D ty!

I bought generic memory from 4allmemory.com Originally placed two seperate orders of 1 gig ddr2 pc5300. Of course, they couldn't be paired. Called them, told them what I wanted and what I got. They were friendly about it. Fast service.

Need to shop around for a 9cell battery now...

Had same problem with stock drivers.  If you are working on something important and it happens don't freak.  If you attach a second monitor and hit the keyboard shortcut for monitor, you can use the second monitor to save your work.  I didn't try closing and re-opening the lid like the above post mentioned so you could try that too.

actually since updating the dirvers from the site above, I haven't had any troubles w/ the screen. :) So, no "freak"ing here ;)
