Alienware M17x r4 Laptop - Connects to the router with both Wireless and Ethernet Cable but still "no internet Access"

So my I got my laptop about a month and a half ago, and it has worked perfectly from the get go; I've had absolutely no problems connecting to the internet until today. What happens is, I turn it on and everything boots fine; all the other programs have no problems and the wireless says 5 bars. But when I open a browser, a little yellow triangle with a "!" appears over the Wi-fi symbol to inform me that there is no internet access. The troubleshooter tells me it is to do with my router/modem, however the desktop PC which is connected to the router via ethernet cable is granted internet access without a hitch. So to me that tells me the problem is with the Laptop? I've done all the "have you tried turning it off and on again?" things but so far, no luck.  Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

I think you mis interpreted my reply jolt_17974. I am not blaming Alienware... I was meerly pointing out that I have two other machines with the same OS and AV setup which have not been affected. So if it is a windows update or Mcafee definitions update, why has it only happened to my M17x R4? My last windows update was 16/08/2012, my M17 R4 was working several days after this point, until this evening. A tad strange is it not?

Yes all three are windows 7 home premium. Turns out thanks the confirmation of Rick, it was a Mcafee update, which is logical as its the only thing changed.

Like many, the recommendation is to remove Mcafee completly. Mcafee recommends using MCPR and reinstall which will get the fixed VirusScan definitions update when runs it first runs the product updater after reinstall.

However depending on the severity of the situation you might be able to fix it without reinstalling. Read the document to confirm. Sadly my internet connection is completed hosed so I need to download MCPR and the Mcafee installer to a USB stick and run them off there.
