base system device missing device in control panel

Control Panel Hardware Devices has 3 unknown items - I cannot find missing Other devices there are 3 devices called Base System Device

I reinstalled windows (fresh XP from cdrom disk) and dell driver disk that came with the computer apparently doesnt have all the drivers on there - video driver would not install either from the drivers disk.  had to find the video driver on the web.  I have video sound, network adapters, wirelan lan, dvd, modem, touchpad, and usb.  Have looked under drivers for support and tried installing most of the inspiron laptop 6400/E1505 none of the drivers solve the missing devices.  The ones I didnt install were for items not on my machine.  I think it may be the built in smart card reader.  Everything seems to work except when you reboot it tries to find the devices.  I can disable the devices but I would rather find the driver for them.
