Battery 11.1 volt NOT 14.8 volt --Need INPUT Please
Ordered extra battery for my (delayed & not received E1705 laptop, ordered a 14.8 volt 80 WHR , 9 cell battery, --GOT a 9 cell 80 WHR, 11.1 volt instead, on 3-9-06). A 11.1 volt battery is not as powerefull as a 14.8 volt, & would like some help, with info. As i have not received any response's to 10-12 e-mail's over last 2 week's to dell support & phone help no good either except they want to charge me to connect to hardware support ?? I don't even have delayed laptop yet !! According to all Dell's chart's & purchasing, ONLY 6 cell battery's are 11.1 volt, & 9 cell battery's are 14.8 volt !! Any help on this appreciated (Dell monitors?? )-----------Dell battery chart below--------------------------------------------------Ordered Extra battery with my (delayed 3 time's E1705 laptop, --yet to receive), BUT received extra battery on 3-9-06. -- ORDERED a 9 cell 80 WHR 14.8 volt battery !! It pretty common, that a 14.8 volt battery is stronger & will last longer & more charge's ..After approx. 10-12 e-mail's to Dell support (different dept's), i have yet to receive a return e-mail in the last 2 wks.. Phone support doesn't have a clue, & they want to transfer me to hardware, & charge me for info., when i don't even have my laptop yet !! Trying to get live chat, on this is imposable . According to Dell's battery chart, & sales chart, 0nly 6 cell battery's are 11.1 volt. 9 cell's are 14.8 volt. Note that neither 6 nor 9 are divisible by 4 (the number of cells in series required for a 14.8 volt nominal rating) and so it is not possible for either battery to be a 14.8v battery. 6 and 9 are both divisible by 3.
So the 6-cell battery has 6 cells in a 3-series 2-parallel arrangement, while the 9-cell battery has a 3-series 3-parallel arrangement. The voltage does not increase, but assuming identical cell sizes, the capacity increases by 50%.
The only spec that REALLY matters is the total capacity rating in watt-hours, which is the nominal voltage multiplied by the capacity of the battery in ampere-hours.
The 4, and 8 cell batteries will be 14.8 volt batteries, the 6 and 9 cell batteries will be 11.1 volt batteries, the 12 cell battery could be either. It doesn't matter anyway, as I said before, only the watt-hour capacity matters.

And as I said in my previous post, if Dell is claiming that their 9-cell batteries are 14.8 volts (which the specs page does say), the documentation is wrong. It is simply not possible for a lithium ion battery to have 9 cells and a nominal voltage of 14.8 volts.
Yes, that page is in error. Yes, it should be fixed. No, it's not a big deal as the most important specification is not the voltage but the energy capacity in watt-hours, which is correct. Assuming identical cells, a 9 cell battery will have 1.5 times the energy capacity of a 6-cell battery, and in this case, 80 watt hours is equal (within rounding errors) to 1.5 times 53 (which is 79.5).
Here's a good example: Which is better, a 9v battery (you know, the commonly available square ones) or 4 AA cells (nominal voltage of 6 volts if they are alkalines).
The answer is the 4 AA cells despite the lower nominal voltage - Their power handling capacity and energy capacity is far higher than the 9v battery. In fact, this even holds true for a pair of AA cells.
