Blank screen with white underscore white cursor when booting
hello,
I have Dell inspiron 1440 and yesterday i'm having problem when i was starting my laptop. After dell logo appeared the next thing was just blank screen with white underscore cursor blinking for eternity. I tried F12, F8 but it didn't give any result. and then i left my laptop for couple hours and then i started it again and this time i could enter diagnostic tool. The result was everything worked good and then the laptop restarted and been able to booting up like usual. I think this problem was over but the next day when i start my laptop again this blank screen problem appear again and F12, F8 button don't give any result... i really don't know what the problem is.. Anyone can help please??
I apologize if this problem has previously been addressed, but I've been unable to find anything that is exactly like what I'm experiencing.

Hi andalasutara ,
Welcome to the Community.
I would like to inform you that this issue might occur because of multiple hardware failures. to isolate the issue we can run a diagnostic test (Preboot system assessment). to run this switch off the system. press and hold the Fn key when it is off and then switch on with the Fn key help down.
It will run complete test on all the hardware and should come up with an error code. please complete the test and reply back with any error code so that the issue can be isolated.
Please respond in case you need any further assistance or clarification.
Glad to help!

thanks for your answer but your suggestion didn't work for me..
so i decided to take it to local techinician. and he checked it but minus the hard drive because i bring home my hard drive. and yesterday he said there weren't any trouble or damage with the hardware.
now i become really confuse..is it possible the hard drive been damage? but if the hard drive been damage why it couldn't reach the Preboot system assessment when started?
Thanks,
