C600 Touchpad: Pointer jumps around the screen

Question

I recently bought a Dell C600 second-hand, believing it was just right for me.

I've had a few problems, although nothing really major except the fact that my touchpad seems to be playing some kind of trick on me.
Sometimes, when I use it, it tends to 'hop' around the screen, following my move--but when I lift my fingers from the touchpad, it simply bounces away to a whole other spot.
I can move it around, but it's use is very limited when it does this.
I run Windows XP Professional.

I have a latitude C610 and I also bought it used.  So far am have been happy with it, but there is a big problem which could turn my day into a disaster when I can not get work ahead.the mouse bounces    around the screen and get stuck in one corner, usually the lower left and the upper right coner.  I was told I need to get a replacement part that goes under the mouse pad, where and how can I get this part.  Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :womansad: (windows profesional

Remove the keyboard and cut the cable to the pointer stick, that will fix your problem, or buy another keyboard, it's a common problem, and if you disable the pointer stick in software the touchpad moves roughly Message Edited by Steve1077 on 06-22-200612:23 PM

Thanks steve I saw a posting in which it recommended putting an antistatic bag under the keyboard to stop static leakage. Please may I enquire if you have seen this fix and whether you know if it works. I lost the link to the posting it contained a photo of the situation.  Yours with thanks Ian

Yes, as long as you can find one with a good pointer stick, if you don't use it then just cut the cable, you can get another used keyboard on eBay for about $30, they are about $100 new I think, you could try changing the sensitivity of the stick but I doubt that would fix it Message Edited by Steve1077 on 06-22-200612:25 PM

No I didn't see that fix, but I can't really see how that would help as there is already some plastic tape over the back of the stick, and when I've changed the keyboard for a good one it's always fixed the problem, but you can always give it a try, does anyone ever use that stick? I would be happy to buy a keyboard that had never been fitted with the stick, I've removed them before but the keys around the stick have bits cut out so you can see something is missing, if only I could buy the keys without the cut outs
