And after comparing the two processors

i7: http://ark.intel.com/products/52231/Intel-Core-i7-2620M-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz

i5: http://ark.intel.com/products/50072/Intel-Core-i5-2540M-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz

they both share the same TDP(Thermal Design Power) so they use the same amount of power so I see no reason why it shouldn't work.

Wow. Would you have a link?

I'd note the i7-2630M uses same sockets as the i5-2540M (FCBGA1023, PPGA988).

Now if only I could get a discrete graphics card in there...:emotion-5:

Someone also tested it with 16gb ram and confirmed it works. I posted a link but the mods won't approve the post and why is the charger necessary?

Can you just type the link in, rather than putting it in as a specific link?

Like this: parts-people.com/index.php?action=category&id=141&subid=374&refine=90+watt+adapter (skipping the www+ part)

On the power supply, one (like mine) is 65W, the other 90W, but if the 2 CPUs use the same amount of power, I'd have the same Q too.

it's the top comment on this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAqafuNYm2M

if I remember correctly their username is spark something. I've been talking to him. He posted the specs in the last comment also.

I have an i3 with 6gb of ram and it never lags. I have even opened tested like 50 tabs once and still no lag. I'm still pondering the need for 16gb of ram and an i7 but it's good to know my laptop will last and is upgradeable. I've fixed the issue I had with it not turning off(removing and reinserting the cmos battery), fixed it randomly crashing(hard drive somehow became loose), changed the clickpad since the left click was worn out and cleaned the fan. Runs smoothly now with Windows 10, Mac and Ubuntu.

The only issue I'm having now is the fan constantly running even when I barely have tabs open. After researching I guess it's a common issue.

Hey,

If you need to download and update your drivers, and don't know how to do it, you can use a Driver Updater Tool, it will save you lots of time and risk less.

I think if you search the forums you'll find some have tried i7 CPUs in this system, and have not succeeded.  It was never shipped with i7 CPUs.

Be interested how this works.

My i5-2540M still going great. I also bought a cooling pad for about €10 to keep temp/throttling down when running games and this seems to work well.

Someone has now tested an Intel Core i7-2620M with 16gb ram and reported back that it's working. This laptop is definitely future proof lol. Windows 20 here I come...

I was getting high temps with the i5 but I used Arctic mx-4, now no matter what I'm doing the temps never get over 70c You should pick some up and try it. I never have to use a cooling pad or *** cooler..

Will let you know after the 3rd how the i7 goes

Just a general question.  What will show the most result in terms of speed, etc., when upgrading the N5050, a faster processor, or Solid State Drive.  The drive would have the advantage of being put in a newer machine in the future.

thanks, Bulgakov90
