cannot get cpx to load drivers

I install the driver then reboot (win 98) then it ask for the directory of the driver again i put it and say unable to load driver for this device. This is not my first time, so please don't talk to me like it is. I just don't understand why it is asking for the directory of the driver again after reboot.

My bios is A16 And I was looking at downloads and seen that I my bios for the mobo is only to A14. could someone have messed this up? Can I go backwards? Do I need to run a diagnostic test? Coud the mobo be changed and I don't know about it? How can I be sure the right mobo is in it? I got a 500 mhz p3.  Also in the setup page is maestro 3 is this right? If so why is downloads saying maestro 2?

thanks

Peter

PLBPRODUCTIONS,

Apparently, you selected the wrong system from the downloads page. I would guess that you have the Latitude CPX-J, but you selected the Lat. CPX-H’s download category.

I put in the service code of 5xxib and that is the driver it comes up with.

Anyway downloaded the audio driver for the cpxj as you said. I install it from locations it reboots it say updating files, sucessful, then build driver database, then it finds new hardware then search for best driver, then specify location  of driver c:\dell\driver\audio then I get

windows unable to locate drivers for this device.

I have another cpxj with xp in it had no problem, Is there anyway to fix this. can I put the driver in manually? I am at a lost, I never had this problem before, Now I am stuck. Is there a program to tell me what motherboard I have in here for sure?

Thanks Peter
